Aileen "Mickey" (Barry) Hart, Resident of South San Francisco, (1923-2010), Mickey was born at home on June 1, 1923 in Millbrae, California. She attended Our Lady of Angels grammar school and graduated from Mercy High School in Burlingame in 1941. Soon thereafter, she worked as a keypunch operator for the Matson Navigation Lines where she met her husband, Burton Hart. Mickey's greatest joys were her two children, Sandra and Gregory. They made a home in South San Francisco where Mickey has lived since 1955. After retirement in 1984, Mickey took great pleasure in volunteering her services to the Mercy High School Alumni Association, and St. Veronica Church in South San Francisco. In 2003, Mickey was bestowed with the Alumna of the Year Award from Mercy High School for her years of dedicated service. Mickey loved attending daily mass, visiting with her close circle of friends, and doting over her family by preparing delicious meals and elegantly decorating for every holiday. Mickey embraced her Catholic values which were reflected in her every thought, word and deed. She had a spontaneous sense of humor and fun-loving spirit, which will be warmly remembered by all who knew her., Mickey is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sandra Hart and David Lloyd; son and daughter-in-law Greg and Peggy Hart; her adoring grandchildren Sean and Brendan Hart and Noah Lloyd; her sisters Geraldine Seil and Ethel Ellis and many cherished nieces and nephews. Mickey was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Burton Hart and beloved grandson Steven Hart., For the past six months Mickey enjoyed the expert care of the Sutter Health Hospital doctors (Robert Dinh, Linda Pope, Aaron Roland) and Hospice nurse (Aurora Academia); the loving and thoughtful care of her home-health nurses, Rosaleen McDaid, Annette Campbell, Susan Desmond, Theresa Frawley, Josephine Moore and Lita Barboza. Her daily trips to Mass during the past year were very much appreciated and could only have happened through the generosity of her close friends, Peg and John Collins. When it became impossible to travel, daily Communion was brought to her through the dedication of her long-time, faithful friends, Nita Ricotta and Nancy Johnson with Sunday communion caringly ministered by Tod Brett. Angelo Criscione, of Cloverdale, died Saturday Sept. 11, 2010 in Santa Rosa. He was 85. Loving father of, Laura (Gary), Sally (Abe), Lydia, and Torina (Dave). Adored grandfather of: John (Tanya), Tammie, Lance, Danielle and great grandchildren Harlie and Domonic. A native of Chicago, Illinois Angelo served as a band leader and musician in the Army during, . He came to California after the war and continued his lifelong career as a musician. He was a barber for many years and sold real estate. He came to Cloverdale ten years ago and lived in the Del Webb Community. Where he developed many close dear friendships. Arthur Dean Jabs Arthur Jabs passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010 after a year-long struggle with esophageal cancer. He was born in Whittier, CA August 24, 1935 to Frances and Harry Jabs. He married his high school sweetheart, Janet Fifield October 4, 1952. He worked for the water company in El Monte during and after High School. He moved his family to Yucca Valley in the early 1960's where he was partner with Bill Carlton in a general contracting business. He later went to work as an investigator for the California State Contractors License Board in San Diego, Sacramento and later in Redding. He divorced in 1984 and then was married to Jacquelyn Bestel for 25 years. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards with friends, garage sales and their cats. He loved the outdoors; camping, hunting, fishing and riding bicycles. He was an avid cook and enjoyed outdoor grilling. He was happiest living and playing in the California desert. Although prickly, Art had a soft heart and was quick to help friends and neighbors. He could build a house from top to bottom and used his knowledge to help friends, neighbors and those in need. He was active in Habitat for Humanity. He chose to give back to the community "one to one". He had a dry sense of humor, which could irritate if you didn't know he was joking. He was instilled with a strong work ethic and was disappointed when it was not shared by others. He held strong conservative views and was very independent. He is survived by his wife Jacquelyn and brother Kenneth, children Dean, Francine and Amy, grandchildren, Connor, Hilary, Wren, Brad, Robin and Allison as well as Jacque's grandchildren and great-grandchildren young enough to remember him as "Grandpa" - Christie, Kelly, Brady, Bryson, Grayce and Raya. A "Celebration of Life" will be held Friday, September 24 at 1 p.m. at McDonald's Chapel, 1275 Continental St. in Redding. ALDERETE-Augustina "Augie" Alderete, May 28, 1927 - September 12, 2010. Surrounded by her family, Augustina Alderete, 83, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, September 12, 2010, into the hands of her Lord. Augie was born on MAy 28, 1927 in Victorville, California to Francisco and Felicitas Zavala. Upon the premature death of her mother, Augie and her brother Frank were raised by their father's cousin, Estanislada and her husband Annunciacion Rubio. Along with their 11 other children, Annunciacion and Estanislada loved and cared for Augie and Frank as their own. On August 26, 1950, Augie married Joe Vindiola Alderete. They had a long happy marriage, married only by the health issues of recent years. Augie was a genuinely beautiful person, and was deeply loved by her family, a large extended family , and many dear friends. She cherished her family and friends, and when anyone visited, they were treated to her delicious cooking. She was an inspiration to all those that knew her, especially mothers. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Joe. She leaves her children, Vivian, Joe (Debra), John and Carol; her grandchildren, Justin Drew, and Joseph (Holly); Erin (Charles) and Matthew; her great-grandchildren, David, Aaron, Cameron and Sophia; Hannah; and one great-grandchild yet to be born. She also loved to have family and friends always around. Betty was welcomed into loving arms by her husband, Robert H. Speck and her granddaughter Bobbie Jean Speck. She was survived by her son and daughter Robert E. Speck, Sharon Cotter, husband John Cotter and her adopted daughter Fely Cayme-Adrias, husband Herdon Adrias, of Merced, and Step daughter Ada Pool of Oklahoma. Her sister Shirley & Joe Reis of Atwater have been such a big part of her life. Shirley is now the last child of 10. As well as, all of her nieces and nephews. Betty was a school car driver for the deaf & hard of hearing in 1965 up until 1970. In 1970, M.C.O.E. opened a deaf and hard of hearing program in Merced. She was the first teacher's aid. She finally retired in 2007 after working for 42 years. Betty was a loving and caring mother as well as a caring grandma, great-grandma and Great-great grandma. Barbara B. Allen went home to her Lord and Savior on September 14, 2010 in Hanford, CA., Barbara was born in Altus, Oklahoma on September 1, 1929 to Burley and Maudie Lee Bagley. She was raised on an 80 acre farm in Humphreys, Oklahoma with two brothers and four sisters. Jack Bagley (deceased) of Humphreys, OK; Nathan (N.F.) Bagley (deceased) of Humphreys, OK; Frances Potts (deceased) of Huntington Beach, CA; Murrel George (deceased) of Bakersfield, CA; Doris Hansen of Rockwall, TX; and Allene Stiefel of Porterville, CA., After high school, she attended a business school and after graduating moved to the Los Angeles area with her young daughter, Patricia. She met her future husband, George Allen, through a mutual friend at her work for Security National Bank. George also had a daughter, Rochelle, from a previous marriage. George and Barbara were married on April 1, 1960 (She always had a good sense of humor!)., She continued to work at the bank moving her way up to Loan Officer. After having their only son together, Steven in 1965, she became a full time mom. The family moved to Hanford in 1979 when George accepted a job with Tulare County as a milk inspector. After Steven graduated from high school, she went back to work for the Hanford School District as an Administration Assistant for a number of years before retiring., She enjoyed doing needlepoint, cross stitching, crocheting, gardening, and canning. She loved to get together with family and friends. She was active in her church at First Baptist in Hanford where she was involved in numerous Sunday School classes, Bible studies, SAM (Senior Adult Ministries), women's groups and helped out cooking and cleaning for the Wednesday night dinners for many years., She is survived by three children, Patricia Groves, husband Jim of Escondido, CA; Rochelle Hoffman of Petaluma, CA; and Steven Allen, wife Lindy of Hanford, CA. There are seven grandchildren, Jason Groves, wife Becky of Omaha, NE; Kendra (Groves) Hankins, husband Eric of Glen Allen, VA; Jeremy Groves of Columbus, OH; Andrea (Hoffman) Bowen, husband Robert of Kadota AFB Tokyo, Japan; Nicole Rogers, Daniel Allen and Shae Allen all of Hanford, CA. He joined the US Army during WWII and was wounded in battle in Fremi-Fontaine, France. He was married to Rellia DeMarco for over 50 years. Bea was born on Sept. 11, 1921, in Harmony, Minn., to Norwegian immigrants Christian Jensen and Ronnaug Sather., She passed away peacefully on Sept. 10, one day shy of her 89th birthday, in Vacaville, Calif., Bea and a friend traveled to California during World War II where she quickly found work as a lathe operator building ships in the Bay Area. She was proud of her contributions to the war effort as a "Rosie the Riveter." Near the end of the war, she met a young sailor named Emer Rott, whom she married on Feb. 3, 1945. In 1953, she and her family moved to Dixon, Calif., a community she loved for over 50 years. She traveled to Minnesota often to visit a large extended family and even traveled to Norway for a large reunion organized in her honor., Bea worked for Dr. Verl Knight for many years as an assistant in his dental practice. She often volunteered her time on behalf of her community., She was a member of the Dixon Women's Improvement Club, Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Moose Lodge and Soroptimists International. Over the years she held many leadership positions in local organizations. She also volunteered her time at the Dixon Community and Methodist Church. Bea looked forward to the Dixon May Fair and always found a way to participate in the parade or activities at the fair grounds. She was an outstanding cow milker and often teamed up with others to win the cow milking contests, a skill she acquired on the dairy her family owned in Minnesota., Bea is survived by her son, Dan; daughter-in-law, Joan; and three grandchildren, Erik, Tara and Ivan; a brother, Harold and sisters, Ruth and Margaret, of Chatfield, Minn.; and a sister, Gladys, of Reno, Nev. Our beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother Cándida do Conçeicão de Avelar Freitas passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010., She was born to Francisco and Emilia de Avelar on January 29, 1922 in Santa Cruz das Flores, Azores and emigrated to the U.S. in 1951. She first lived in the Fresno area and then, for most of her life, in Kings County. She married Ernest W. Freitas in 1963. In 1966 they opened Ernie's Liquor and retired in 1987 to Nipomo, CA for a short while before returning to Lemoore. Cándida, known to her family and friends as Candy, was an exceptional homemaker and seamstress. Her mastery of exquisite detail for formal dresses and capes for the queens and her attendants for various Portuguese IDES festivals in the Central Valley in the 1950's and 1960's was renowned. Those who were fortunate to have heard them loved her intricate and melodious renditions of classic Azorean festival marches and fados., She is survived by her husband, Ernie of Lemoore; sister, Emilia Lopez of Fresno; son Roy Rosa of Lemoore, daughter, Maria Wosick of Citrus Heights, son, Joseph Rosa of Sacramento; four grandchildren, Randy, Nicole, Timothy, and Kimberly and one great-granddaughter, Esme. Carmen and her husband Angel, of 54 years, owned and operated the Baskin-Robbins ice cream in Hemet for 10 years. She is survived by her husband Angel, two daughters; Camille Roberts and Monica Barnes and her husband Johnny from Hemet. Five sons; Michael, his wife Cheri, Robert, his wife Patty, Marc, David, and his wife Julie, all from Hemet; Gus, and his wife Janelle, from Mountain Home, Arkansas. Eighteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Carmen\'s siblings are Cosme Heredia, Jesse Carrasco, both of Hemet. May 26, 1935 - Sept. 10, 2010 It is with great sadness that the family of Carol announce her passing, her promotion to glory, early in the morning on Friday, September 10, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 75 years. Carol touched many lives with her loving kindness, beautiful spirit and incredible courage; not to mention her awesome cookies. It was only one month ago that twenty-four of her family members travelled with her to Maui to celebrate the fiftieth wedding anniversary to the love of her life, Vern. Amongst rolling waves, fun times at the pool and laughs galore, we treasured the gift of time we had with her. As a cancer survivor for twelve years she fought the battle bravely and courageously right to the end. Carol experienced and enjoyed many great times with friends and loved ones in her homes in Calgary, Windermere, BC, and Palm Valley Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif. Carol is survived by her loving husband, Vern; sons, Greg (Elaine) and Clark (Kathy); daughters, Marleea (Bob Ashauer) and Marilyn (Cameron Blewett); and grand-children whom she adored, Brittany, Jenessa and Madison; Sean, Jack, Cole and Lauren; Rachel, Chantel, Nicole and Alyssa; Jaeden, Ashton, Arianna, and Luke. She is also survived by her sister, Joan Kelm; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Hilda Nargang; and her brother, Clinton Nargang. Charles "Cliff" Hitchcock was born in Sedalia, Mo., in December 1922, and passed away Monday, Aug, 30, 2010. After finishing high school in Moberly, Mo., he served in the, in the Pacific Theatre. At the end of, , he began work at the Richfield (now ARCO) refinery in Southern California. He eventually became manager of fire, safety, and security for the entire facility - he retired in 1983. In 1947, Cliff married Delores "De" Bauer and they lived in Long Beach, Calif., for more than 40 years. In 1989, they moved to Arroyo Grande and became active members of St. John''s Lutheran Church. In 2009, they moved to Cypress Place Senior Living in Ventura, Calif. An avid golfer, Cliff was the proud owner of a hole-in-one trophy. He also enjoyed the annual reunions of fellow World War II veterans from his special unit of radio operators. Cliff is survived by his wife, De; brother, Jasper of Houston, Texas; daughter, Patricia Lochner of Oak View, Calif.; son, Stephen of Albany, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. "Mommae," as she was known to her family and friends, was born in Agaña, Guam, January 18, 1919, to Chester Carl Butler and Ignacia Bordallo Butler. Married 52 years to the late Milton H. Champion, US Army Air Corps, Ret., she was mother to Consuelo Burdette of San Jose, CA, Jacqui (Gary) McMahon of Santa Rosa, CA, Gerard (Cecilia) Champion of Agaña, Guam, Gregory Champion, Donna Champion, and Ron (Jill) Champion, of Sebastopol. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her grandson, Steven McMahon, and brothers Harry, Ben, and Jim Butler. She is also survived by her two sisters, Sister Carmencita and Sister Martha, Carmelite order, in San Francisco, CA. Mae and Milton were married on Guam in 1939. She came to live with her husband in Oakland after a whirlwind romance and honeymoon in Honolulu. Mae and her family lived in Oakland, eventually settling in Sebastopol, where they built, owned and operated the A&W Drive-In for many years. She enjoyed family gatherings, music, laughter, travel, genealogy, gardening, and volunteering in church activities where she taught religious education for many years. A member of the YLI of St. Sebastian's Parish, Mae was a woman of deep faith who instilled in her children and grandchildren the power of prayer. Dean Edwin Lindsay Age 82, beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 30th, 2010 in Sonoma, CA after a long illness. Dean was born on February 29th, 1928 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was the oldest of three children of John Edwin and Stella Lindsay. As a young man Dean was a member of the world renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir, spawning a lifelong interest in music, theater and the performing arts. He attended the University of Utah and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. After graduating, Dean joined the, and trained to become a pilot. He was promoted to flight instructor during the Korean War and achieved the rank of captain. At the conclusion of his military career, Dean took a sales position with Owen Corning Fiberglass, launching a successful career in the building materials industry that would span almost forty years. Dean met the love of his life, Mary Bell, in San Francisco and they married in 1957. Together they raised four sons as Dean's sales and marketing jobs took the family from Saratoga, CA to Toledo, OH in 1967 with Owens Corning and onto Cleveland, OH in 1977 with Donn Corp. After retirement, Dean and Mary returned back to the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to being a respected executive, Dean was also an avid woodworker, home improvement enthusiast, tennis player, sailor and world traveler. He was extremely devoted to his wife Mary and in later years, their seven grandchildren. Family and friends were the center of their life and they made deep and lasting relationships wherever they lived. Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary. He is survived by his sons John (Allison) of Sammamish, WA, Kent (Valerie) of Mill Valley, CA, Todd (Johanna) of Fremont, CA, and Stephen (Mary D.) of Petaluma, CA; sister Carole Mackey of Houston, TX; and grandchildren Andrea, Erin, Katie, Michael, Megan, Simon and Nora. We will miss his sage advice, warm smile, hearty laugh and wry sense of humor. A private memorial service will be held at a future date. Danilo Fabbri Passed away peacefully on September 12, 2010. Born June 27, 1949, he was raised in Tuscany. Danilo moved to San Francisco where, in 1980, he met his great love, his beloved wife Linda Rader Fabbri. They married in 1982 and built their life together in Berkeley, California. Danilo was larger than life; a man of many talents, and a successful businessman/restaurateur. He loved his dogs, his garden, bocce ball, and formula one car races. He was passionate, generous and an excellent cook. An extraordinary man, Danilo was a valiant and courageous warrior in his thirty-five-year battle with kidney disease. Survived by his wife Linda, he was preceded in death by his parents Iacopo and Emma Fabbri, and also by his brother Franco Fabbri. Danilo leaves behind loving cousins and friends who will miss him dearly. In memory of Elmer "Smitty" Smith, who peacefully passed away at home on Sept. 3, 2010., Smitty was born in Lodi, Calif., on May 7, 1941. He is survived by his 3 sons, Charles, William and Danny; and grandsons, Michael and James Smith., Smitty served 4 years in the Army, completing a tour in Korea. He was a resident of Solano County for more then 35 years, and spent 33 years as a parts manager of Woodard Chevrolet in Fairfield., Along with the love of his wife of 35 years, Kathy, they started the first motorcycle shop in Vacaville in 1976. Ten years later, they closed their shop where they became some of the founding members of ABATE Local 17, where they both held numerous offices. She was born March 25, 1930 in Norwalk, daughter of the late William A. and Edith Souppa. Minnie was employed as a Health Care Aide by Med Center Home Health Care retiring in 1992. Minnie loved Bingo and bus trips to the casino and Nascar Races. She is survived by her sons, Robert Tenbrink and his wife, Kathy of Naugatuck, Arthur Tenbrink, also of Naugatuck, her twin children, son, Joseph Tenbrink and wife, Rose of Beacon Falls and daughter, Joann McDermott and husband, David of Danbury; brothers, William Souppa of Arlington, Vt. Robert Souppa of Greenbush, Maine; sister, Ginger Wright of New Smyrna, Fla.; 16 grandchildren 19 great -grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her caretaker of 14 years, Carrie Anderson. She was predeceased by her sister, llene Mickey Shipul. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Eugene Keith Ward, age 70, of New Milford, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at home. He was the husband of Eva Ann Bilodeau Ward. Mr. Ward was born in Conway, South Carolina, June 20, 1940, son of the late Eugene Vance and Thelma Sawyer Ward. He served in the, for 22 years, retiring as Chief Petty Officer in 1978. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a railroad engineer for 30 years, the last 24 with Metro-North Commuter Railroad, retiring in July 2008. In addition to his wife of 34 years, he is survived by two sons, Michael Ward and his wife Dawn of Lebanon, OH, and Arthur Ward and his wife Beata of Fort Ann, N.Y.; two daughters, Geneva and her husband Roger Levesque of Richmond, VA. and Amanda and husband Stephen Peterson of New Milford; two brothers, Ronald Ward and his wife Susan of Conway, SC and LeVerne Ward and his wife Lejeune of Loris, SC; a sister, Sara-Gene Sullivan of Hartsville, SC; eight grandchildren, Emily, Daniel, Noah, Hannah, Jonas, Audrie, Alexander, and Dylan; and several nieces and nephews. Fleda passed away on Friday, April 9, 2010, after a long illness. She was born in Long Beach, CA, on January 26, 1924, the daughter of Ray and Vera Krone. Her childhood years were spent in Arcata, San Bruno, and Palo Alto, CA. She graduated from Palo Alto High School, and became one of the pioneers of the Palo Alto Children's Theater. She received her BA from Stanford University in Theater Arts and Costume Design. In 1950 she married William Evans, and on April 8, 2010, they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. A year ago Fleda and Bill moved to Loomis, CA, from Los Altos Hills, to be near their family., Fleda shared her love of the theater through teaching drama education at San Jose State University and directing plays for amateur theater groups in her home town of Los Altos, CA. She was an active member of PEO, a service organization which supports academic scholarships for women, and was for many years an active member of a religious theater group called LAMP (Los Altos Methodist Players), directing numerous productions there., Fleda is survived by her husband Bill, her daughter and son-in-law, Lee Evan and Jeff Belfiglio of Bellevue, WA; her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Amanda Evans of Loomis, CA; grandchildren Evan and Alexander Belfiglio, Silas Brewton, and Carson Evans; her sister Betty Krone Asher of Loomis, and many nieces and nephews., A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Sierra Presbyterian Church in Loomis, CA on Saturday, May 1 at 4:30 PM. January 6, 1926 ~ September 11, 2010 George Binford "Randy" Randolph, 84, was born in Petaluma, CA on January 6, 1926 and passed away in Merced, CA on September 11, 2010. Randy grew up in Novato and Alameda, CA, graduating from Alameda High School where he was student body president and a talented golfer who helped lead his team to the state championship in 1942. He attended the University of Michigan where he earned a BS in Engineering and met his wife of 64 years, Margaret "Maggie" Renfrew of Hazel Park, MI. He achieved the rank of lieutenant JG in the US Navy by age 20 and was regimental commander of his NROTC class. After marrying Maggie in Detroit, MI on September 7, 1948, Randy seized an opportunity to return to California by opening a distributorship for the Trerris Company in San Francisco, eventually representing Republic Supply Company throughout the Bay Area. He moved his young family from Walnut Creek to Merced in 1961 and established the Merced Concrete Company and other area businesses, creating many local jobs. Blessed with an abundance of energy, Randy breathed life into everything he did and thoroughly enjoyed life in the Merced community. Treasured for his positive outlook and "can-do" attitude, he was an active leader in numerous community organizations, including Rotary, Masons, American Legion, Boosters Club, Chamber of Commerce, United Way and Boy Scouts, to name a few. A ready toastmaster, he was esteemed for his gift of public speaking. So many were his contributions to the community that in 1983, the Merced City Chamber of Commerce named him Man of the Year. Randy loved work, was treasured for his business acumen, and remained active as one of the owners of Soil Stabilization Products Company until the day he died. Not only did he work hard, he played hard and loved sports. An avid golfer, he served as president of the Merced Golf & Country Club. He loved sailing, was a member of the Lake Yosemite Sailing Association and even built his own sailboat. He was a founding president of the Castle Air Museum, rode his bicycle to the office until the age of 82, and traveled the world with Elder Hostel and Merced College. He enjoyed wine-making, bridge, tennis, camping, fishing, and family retreats in Santa Cruz and Big Piney, WY. An elder at Central Presbyterian Church, he loved the Bible, memorized many passages, and was very active in Gideons. Possessing a beautiful voice, he sang baritone in the church choir his whole life. He enjoyed collaborating with his beloved wife in her many community activities, often calling himself "Mr. Ma ggie." He will be deeply missed by many. Predeceased by his parents, Benton and Gertrude (Binford) Randolph, brother Binford, sisters Mae Soderlund and Virginia Weber, and brothers-in-law James Weber, Hank Soderlund, and James Renfrew; he is survived by his loving wife Maggie; three sons Robert "Bob," Samuel, and Paul; three daughters-in-law Jan Child, Tralee Luxon Randolph, and Rose Randolph, all of Merced; four grandchildren, Paul Randolph, Tiffany Villanueva, and Erika Pryor of Merced, and Robert Child of Arroyo Grande; five great-grandchildren Alexander and William Villanueva of Merced, Maryn and Aidan Pryor of Merced, and Ezra Hill of Arroyo Grande; sister-in-law Betty Campbell of Venice, FL and brother-in-law Murray Renfrew of Sarasota, FL; plus a large extended family, including Andrew Luxon of Merced whom he treated like a son. Glenna Marie Icely Glenna Icely was born April 24, 1928 to Roy and Katie Creason in Corona, CA. Passed away September 14, 2010 at Willow Springs after a valiant fight with Alzheimers. H. Rex Guinivere Mining Engineer Rex Guinivere, 78, passed away Wednesday 8th September 2010 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, OH. He was born in Auckland, New Zealand on the first of October, 1931. For primary school he went to Ponsonby School, then on to Auckland Grammar. He went into the University at Auckland, and then went down to Otago University in Dunedin, specifically, the Otago School of Mining and Metallurgy, what was then the oldest professional school in New Zealand. After graduating as a bachelor of engineering and mining out of Otago in 1956, he went to Australia. He worked at Broken Hill, initially as a miner underground, and then went into the coal mining areas of New South Wales in Burward, and then did some shaft sinking south of Sydney in Oakdale. After "six years in the bush in Australia" he spent "three years in the jungle in Malaya" working for Eastern Mining and Metals. Starting off as assistant planning and research engineer, he finished up as production superintendent on Bukit Besi, an 80,000-ton-a-day open-cut iron ore mine. In 1964, he came to the United States on holiday to visit a brother in California, and soon found a job with Kaiser Engineers based in Oakland, California. A colleague, from Granville OH, introduced him to his childhood friend Suzanne, ne Thomas. Rex and Suzanne married in April 1965 at the home of her parents John and Doris Thomas on River Rd in Perrysburg, OH and lived in California, settling in Diablo California in 1976. After working on various dam projects like the American River Project, and the Hellhole Dam project for two years he transferred to Kaiser's Nonferrous Metals division in 1966 and was soon promoted to Vice President. In 1981 Homestake Mining recruited him as a Vice President to direct the McLaughlin Gold Mine project near Clear Lake, California-a major success and one of the largest gold mining projects built in the western hemisphere. In 1998 he moved from Diablo, California, with his wife to River Road, Perrysburg, OH, across the road from the house where they were married. In his retirement he volunteered for SCORE and taught some construction management seminars at Bowling Green State University. He loved gardening, growing flowers (vegetables, not so much), and for many years planted gardens of riotous colors inspired by Monet's paintings in both California and Ohio. He is survived by his wife Suzanne (Thomas) Guinivere, son David T. Guinivere of San Jose California, son John L. Guinivere and granddaughters Ocean and Sophia of Las Vegas, Nevada, and daughter Mary G. Guinivere Maisonneuve of Paris, France. On September 5, 2010, Harold Raymond Mancusi-Ungaro, Sr., M.D., F.A.A.P., passed away at his California home at the age of 91. Dr. Mancusi-Ungaro was born in Newark, NJ, at home on September 3, 1919. He received his B.A. from Yale University in 1940. Medicine was his calling. He became the eldest in the twelfth generation of physicians in his family when he received his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in December 1943, part of an accelerated wartime class. During his internship at Newark City Hospital, he met Freda Liebman, his wife of 59 years. Although he chose pediatrics, the war years had him stationed at Finney Hospital in Georgia where he practiced as a psychiatrist. After the war, Dr. Mancusi-Ungaro completed a pediatric residency at New York Hospital. The family settled in Montclair, NJ, where he opened his private practice of pediatrics in their house on January 1, 1949. Professionally, he cared for two generations of children and their children. He retired, thirty years to the day, on January 1, 1979. He and Freda had intended to take three months off to winter in Florida; he never resumed practice. He loved to cook, and made a mission passing his mother's and grandmother's recipes on to the next two generations. In 1996, they moved to Beaumont, TX, to be near their son. They relocated to Santa Rosa, CA in 2002. Dr. Mancusi-Ungaro lost Freda in 2004 after a long illness. In Santa Rosa, he met and later married Sheilah Ryan. He remained active and vibrant until the end. Politics was a constant subject of discussion. He enjoyed many of the local restaurants, and was a proud member and frequent visitor of the Wild Oak Saddle Club in Oakmont. Death came quietly from malignant melanoma. Throughout his life, he easily befriended people, whether his patients, his neighbors, or the local merchants. One Texas friend described him as a true gentleman. He enjoyed a thirty-plus-year retirement. He touched many lives professionally and many hearts personally. He asked his family to celebrate his life, not mourn his death, "I've lived a good life, a long life. I have no regrets. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't change a thing." He lived. Vixit. Jacqueline and Janessa Greig Jacqueline Greig, 44, was born in San Francisco, grew up in the Mission District, and attended St. John Ursuline High School for Girls before attending San Francisco State University, where she graduated in 1988 with honors and a degree in international business. She worked for the California Public Utilities Commission for 21 years and was a member of its Division of Ratepayer Advocates. She also was a member of the natural gas committee on the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates. Janessa, 13, attended St. Cecelia Catholic School in San Francisco as an eighth-grader. She had been at the school since she was in kindergarten and was the current student body president. She was a writer for the school paper, in the school drama club and played the piano. Janet Neil was born in Tacoma, Wash., Aug. 3, 1945. With her loving husband Jerry, devoted family and dearest friends by her side, Janet passed peacefully into the arms of God on Sept. 6, at her beautiful home on the family ranch in Winters., Janet fought a courageous 3-year battle with cancer, without so much as a single complaint. Janet enjoyed life to the fullest, even during her toughest days she would say, "I am the luckiest woman in the world, I was blessed with a wonderful husband, loving friends. I have traveled the world and I have so much to be thankful for." She was truly more concerned for others than herself., Janet loved horses, nature, photography, antique cars and vintage clothing. She only knew one way to do something and that was "the best" she possibly could. Her contact with nature was something to behold, whether it be at her Eagle Lake cabin or her beautiful home in Winters. She loved to be surrounded by bald eagles, grey foxes, mountain Quail and deer. One of her favorite hobbies was to photograph wildlife, especially birds, and the joy she got sharing the photos with her husband Jerry. "What a team we made" Janet would always say., Janet and Jerry operated family businesses their entire marriage of 43 years. Some of Jerry's fondest memories were of Janet as a young lady giving horse riding lessons to children on a ranch in Sacramento, or touring their old cars through the mountains of Colorado, dressed in vintage clothing. Though, Janet and Jerry had no children of their own, they impacted many lives of children in the community. Joe Morello On September 3, 2010 Joe Morello passed from this life surrounded by his family. Having enjoyed 80 years of family, business, sports, and golf, Joe succumbed after a hard-fought battle with multiple myeloma. A gentleman, a man of integrity, honesty, kindness, and generosity, Joe is survived by the family of which he was so proud - his wife (Augie) of 58 years, his children and their spouses (Linda Morello and Javier Gomez, John and Heather Morello, Joe Morello and Trish Breslin), 4 grandchildren (Catherine, Hannah, Mateo, and Anna Morello), cousins and family, and his beloved dog, Tuffy. Joe, son of Maria and John Morello of Mill Valley, lived 77 years of his life in Marin County. He graduated from Park School and Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, and he earned an AA from the College of Marin. A great athlete, Joe was co-captain of his schools' baseball teams and a member of the Jr. Seals. He was a co-founder of the Southern Marin Little League and he coached numerous Little League and C.Y.O. basketball teams. A dedicated fan of the 49ers (season ticket holder) and the Giants, Joe enjoyed both playing and watching sports. The day after Joe married Augie, IJ columnist Jim Gilmartin wrote "Tiburon third sacker Joe Morello didn't show up for his team's game yesterday. Joe was too busy - getting married. The new auxiliary third sacker is the former Augie Perry." And, Joe loved golf, playing several times every week and planning his calendar around his golf games. Joe's great passion was the business in which he co-partnered with the Canepa family - the Mill Valley Market. Both Jim and Bob Canepa were respected and beloved business partners and friends with whom he shared 35 years in business. As the produce buyer at the Mill Valley Market, Joe dedicated himself to bringing the freshest and best produce to his customers and in meeting their special wants and needs. He took pleasure in learning everything he could about fine foods and wines and sharing that with family, friends, and customers. No one could barbecue a steak or prepare a crab dip quite like Joe. At his 50th wedding anniversary, he remarked that he was "the luckiest man in the world" - he had had a business, a wife, and a family he loved. Joe was a member of numerous organizations (SIRS Branch 47, Italian Catholic Federation, Italian Athletic Club). He dedicated his time to his children's schools and to his parish. He enjoyed many friendships - other gentlemen who shared his love of sports, enjoyed his company, and supported him during these past two years of declining health. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Joe and his family wish to express their gratitude to the staff of the Greenbrae Care Center for their extraordinary and compassionate care. And, Joe held his physicians (Dr. Robert Van Herick and Dr. Bobbie Head) in the highest esteem. He valued and respected their care and treatment. Kenneth Jowell, 84, long-time song leader for the Lassen Street Church of Christ in Vallejo, and Vallejo resident, died Saturday, Sept. 4, at his care home from complications brought on by diabetes., A native of Greenway, Arkansas, he served in the U.S. Navy for four years shortly after World War II. Following military service, he graduated from the University of Arkansas and dental college in St. Louis, Missouri. When that office closed, he joined the Drew Preparatory School in San Francisco as administrative assistant and part-time instructor until his retirement several years ago., Kenneth was beloved by hundreds of Drew School students and their families, for whom he was a caring, thoughtful mentor and friend. In his honor Drew School started the Mr. Jowell Scholarship Fund, enabling many students to attend Drew as Jowell Scholars. That fund will keep his memory alive at his San Francisco "home." On at least two occasions the annual yearbook was dedicated to Mr. Jowell. One spring the students took up a secret fund and bought Mr. Jowell a round-trip airline ticket to anywhere he wanted to go, only to have him say "thank you, but I have no other place than Drew that I'd rather be." He was sought out by many students due to his massive knowledge of many subjects and his story-telling ability, which caused him to be dubbed "The Raconteur of Drew School.", As a song leader, he led for a number of large Church of Christ congregations, including Getwell and Dunn in Memphis and Golden Gate in San Francisco. He was invited to become the song leader at Lassen Street Church of Christ in Vallejo and served in that capacity for 42 years until his health declined and he had to step down. Every time the congregation got a new song book, he insisted that everyone learn every new song in the book and was adept at teaching acappella music utilizing shape notes., He taught an adult Bible class at Lassen Street for many years and had a vast knowledge of both the Old and New Testaments. He was familiar with the works of many famous authors and had a scholar's knowledge of the Civil War., He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Flossie Jowell, and an older sister, Gwen. He is survived by two nieces and a nephew residing in the East. |

Leota Margaret Shawver died at the age of 93 in Santa Rosa, on May 21, 2010., Leota moved to Vacaville in 2001 from Coarsegold, Calif., where she had lived with her husband since 1976. After his death, she wanted to live closer to her two children, Patrice Frary of Sebastopol and Donald Shawver of Fair Oaks., She was an active member of Covenant Community Church. She also was a painting student at the Vacaville Senior Center and enjoyed painting twice-weekly, taking time out during painting class to go downstairs to exercise., In 2004, Leota was chosen by Opportunity House as their Volunteer of the Year and was honored by the city of Vacaville for her services. Leota was an avid reader and was eclectic in her taste, from Mark Twain to Eleanor Roosevelt to Charles Colson. She was interested in world peace and kept up with the United Nations news, but also loved the Giants and the A's and also loved Tiger Woods., She was born in Springfield, Mo., the fourth of 10 children, and raised in the general Tulsa, Okla., area. She graduated from Tulsa high school at age 16 and moved to California in her late teens, residing in Pasadena and Costa Mesa., She married at the age of 24 and had her two children in her early 30s, after moving to northern California. Her active community service years were spent in Fremont, Calif., where she was not only active in her church but also in the local civic affairs of the city. She began painting in the late '60s and continued up until nine months before her death. Her medium was acrylics and like her reading tastes, her painting also showed a wide range of topics, from landscapes, to still life, to small animals., Leota leaves behind her two children and their spouses, Patrice and Steve Frary and their four children, Kathryn, Bryce, Grace and Anna, and five grandchildren; and Don and Peggy Shawver and his three children, Donna, Lee, and Luke, and one grandchild., Her memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. at Covenant Community Church., In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to either Covenant Community Church - Deacons Fund, or Opportunity House., |

Died Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the age of 79. Lon was born March 5, 1935 in Corinne, Utah to the late Carlisle Gilbert and Rachel Young. He moved to Petaluma when he was 11. After serving in the National Guard for several years, he married Jeanette King. In 1959 he married Ruth Nordman, his Love. Technically he was "Refrigeration Mechanic" by profession. In reality, he was so much more. He had the "common sense ability" afforded few. He could diagnose technical problems, invent solutions and often create the tools necessary for the "fix." After 15 years, he slowed down a bit and became Grounds, Maintenance and Transportation Director for the Petaluma City School District where he continued to use his "outside the lines" intellect. Nowhere on job resumes is there a category for "tall storyteller/fabricator," but he was that as well. Lon's parents and brother, Gary young, preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister Darlene (Robert) Crozier; his wife of 51 years, Ruth Gilbert; step-daughters Aileen (Mark) Bratovich, Pat Nordman and Susan (Michael) Gunn; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Lynda Marie Dalton passed away September 13, 2010. She was born on May 6, 1947, in Williamson County, Texas to Ira and Lillian Dockrey. She touched many hearts and will be greatly missed. Lynda was a valued and beloved employee of Bob's Flying Service in Knights Landing for over forty years and was a longtime resident of Robbins, CA. She enjoyed fishing and relaxing at her cabin in LaPorte Pines, CA. She is survived by her mother, Lillian Dockrey of Yuba City; her husband of thirty years, Mike Dalton of Robbins; her son, Randy MacKaben and his wife, Wendy of Williams; her stepdaughters, Michele Richardson of Tollhouse, Patricia Dalton of Arbuckle, and Marcy Dalton of Yuba City as well as her five grandchildren. Marilyn Jean (Kalney) Hooper Passed away on September 13, 2010 at the age of 72 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in San Francisco on March 28, 1938, Marilyn was a long time resident of Novato in Marin County where she raised her family and worked. This year Marilyn and her husband Dave celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Though the celebration was subdued due to Marilyn's illness, their love and commitment for each other was evident throughout her fight with cancer. Their relationship has always been an inspiration to those who knew them. Marilyn graduated with the class of 1956 at St. Paul's High School in San Francisco and remained part of the alumni association. Marilyn worked many years for the County of Marin, and was very active with her favorite groups: Novato Hostess Club, Marin County Association of Retired Employees, and the Red Hats. Marilyn and Dave loved to travel and especially enjoyed their time in Australia and New Zealand. Marilyn enjoyed playing bridge at Rolling Hills Country Club and with several other clubs and gardening around her home. Marilyn especially enjoyed having her family together to celebrate any and all occasions and to cook and enjoy each other's company. One of Marilyn's favorite pastimes was to buy cookbooks and read them. Today, she has a significant collection. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dave; children David (Karen), Pamela Eger (John), and Deborah DeMars; and grandchildren Justin, Travis, Kelsey, Katherine, and John; as well as many close friends and relatives. Friends may visit after 1:00 PM at Keaton's Redwood Chapel at 1801 Novato Blvd., on Sunday, September 19th with a Rosary beginning at 2:30 PM. After her father, a railroad engineer, died at 52 years old, her mother turned their home into a boarding house. After World War II, one boarder, Carl Hunnicutt, met and married Margie. They had three children: Bob 59, Wendy 56, Tom 50, plus four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990. From Port Huron they later moved to Sterling Heights, MI and then followed two of their children who moved to California. Marion Frederick Hawkins was born April 9, 1925 in Marshfield, MO and passed away in his home surrounded by his family on September 11, 2010 at the age of 85., Marion was born to Floyd and Etta Mae Hawkins, the youngest son of their nine children. In 1943 he entered the, and served his country alongside his three brothers. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and went to work for the Hanford Sentinel and later the Santa Barbara News-Press. He retired in 1987 after 40 years of loyal service to newspapers. In 1989, Marion and his wife Connie moved to Modesto where he enjoyed golfing, attending Shelter Cove Church, and most of all, watching his grandkids play sports., Marion is survived by his wife of 62 years, Connie Hawkins of Modesto; his three children, Cecilia Avila of Fresno, Linda (Rodney) Rodrigues of Lemoore, and Fred (Carmen) Hawkins of Modesto; sisters Leota Clair of Marshfield, MO and Oleta Miller of Niangua, MO; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and countless other family members who will miss his humor and gracious heart. 73, died unexpectedly September 12th while recovering from a broken leg and surgery. Marva was born to the late Niels and Hazel Holgersen on December 11th, 1936. She was raised in Loleta on her father's dairy ranch, the Holgersen Dairy. She graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1954. Marva married the love of her life, Delmar Detherage Sr. on April 14, 1956. They had three children LaVonne, Terri and Delmar Jr. As her children got older Marva attended College of the Redwoods, graduating in 1972 going on to Humboldt State university to obtain her Bachelors degree in teaching. She had a special talent working with special kids and went on to be a Special Education teacher at Pine Hill Elementary and South Bay Elementary Schools. She taught for twenty years, retiring in 1975. She recently worked for changing tides family services providing respite care for her Grand-daughter Chelise. Shortly after retirement she and her husband moved to Baja, Ca. They later bought some property and moved to Golden Valley, AZ and built themselves a home. In September 2004 her husband died of cancer and Marva moved back to Eureka to be with her family. She was preceded in death by her daughter Terri, her brother Sonny, her parents, her husband Delmar, and her Aunty Helen Sampson. She is survived by her son Delmar Jr. & his wife Jeanette, her step-daughter Patricia Moore, her daughter LaVonne Yates, her brother Curt Holgersen & his wife Ann, her brother Harry Holgersen, ten Grandchildren, eight Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many dear friends. Marva touched many lives during her lifetime, with her warm smile and gentle ways. She was a very caring, honest, loving, giving, genuine fun person. She had regular outings with a group of her teacher friends whom she always enjoyed spending time with. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to spend time with her grandchildren. She is going to be deeply missed by all of us who were privileged to know her. Her Journey's Just Begun Don't think of her as gone away-- her journey's just begun; life holds so many facets-- this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Born in Woodland, California on July 9, 1930 to James Vincent and Lella Belle Ball Doherty, Mary Ellen grew up at the Sutter Buttes, and later at The Red Rose Ranch in Arbuckle, California., Mary Ellen attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School in Colusa, Holy Rosary Academy in Woodland, and Dominican College in Marin County, where she earned her degree in Biology and History in 1956. Mary Ellen went on to become a school, before settling down to raise her family at the home that she and her husband, Charles, built in Hillsborough in 1960., Mary Ellen enjoyed many community, outdoor and athletic activities over the years. Once her children were school aged, Mary Ellen began participating in volunteer work and fund raising events for the Coyote Point Museum Auxiliary. Mary Ellen loved gardening, and was a member of the Perennial Gardener's Garden Club for many years. It was her love of oak trees that inspired her to build on the property in Hillsborough that she called home for the last 50 years. She enjoyed the sport and camaraderie of pheasant hunting in the rice fields with her family during the fall, and enjoyed skiing with her family at Lake Tahoe during the winter. Mary Ellen enjoyed many years as a member of the Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club where she worked on perfecting her golf game, and was an enthusiastic tennis player year round until the age of 70. Mary Ellen was also an avid reader and traveler. Later in life, Mary Ellen traveled the world from Asia to Europe and to destinations in between, often with her youngest daughter, Gaby, as her traveling companion., Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, (d. 1976), a pharmacist, 4th generation San Franciscan and descendant of Captain Nicholas Bichard, who came to California from the English Channel Islands during the Gold Rush era and was a successful San Francisco businessman. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Damaret (d.1960). Mary Ellen is survived by her children: Cigale (and husband Kerry) of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Midge (and husband John) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; son Michael of Hillsborough, California; and Gabrielle of Scottsdale, Arizona. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Dominique Bichard of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Morgan and Taylor du Bray of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Mary Ellen was also preceded in death by her dear brother, Michael V. Doherty of Dunnigan, California who died in 2009. She is survived by her sisters, Maureen (Lady Bug) of Sites; Margaret Abele of Arbuckle (and brother-in-law John Abele); sister-in-law Kirsten Doherty of Dunnigan; 15 nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. Mary Ellen was also an avid reader and traveler. Later in life, Mary Ellen traveled the world from Asia to Europe and to destinations in between, often with her youngest daughter, Gaby, as her traveling companion. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, (d. 1976), a pharmacist, 4th generation San Franciscan and descendant of Captain Nicholas Bichard, who came to California from the English Channel Islands during the Gold Rush era and was a successful San Francisco businessman. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Damaret (d.1960). Mary Ellen is survived by her children: Cigale (and husband Kerry) of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Midge (and husband John) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; son Michael of Hillsborough, California; and Gabrielle of Scottsdale, Arizona. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Dominique Bichard of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Morgan and Taylor du Bray of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Mary Ellen was also preceded in death by her dear brother, Michael V. Doherty of Dunnigan, California who died in 2009. She is survived by her sisters, Maureen (Lady Bug) of Sites; Margaret Abele of Arbuckle (and brother- in-law John Abele); sister-in-law Kirsten Doherty of Dunnigan; 15 nieces and nephews, their spouses and children. Mary Ellen will be remembered for her strong work ethic, love of reading, travel, cooking, entertainment, and her love of tennis. Her children inherited many of her traits and are thankful for her inspiration. The family is grateful for the loving care, compassion and support that Mary Ellen received from the care givers at Senior Assist of the Peninsula. The family would also like to offer a special thank you to Mission Hospice of San Mateo for their outstanding medical support. Born Mildred Cole in Doniphan, Hall County, NE, her early years were spent helping her family on the farm. She was married to Leonard McKibben for 60 years before his passing in 1998. Back in 1957 they packed up their three young children and left the drayage business in Grand Island, NE to head west to California, destination Westchester. Leonard's Service Station was their center of business in CA which also became after school jobs and later shaped the future for both their young sons. Their daughter pursued a career within management in the airline business. A longtime resident of Lawndale, CA, Mildred was an avid cook and gardener winning local awards for her meticulously cared for yard. She leaves behind two sons, Dennis McKibben of Atascadero, CA and Jerry McKibben of Playa del Rey, CA and daughter, Janice Fawcett of Seattle, WA, as well as four grandchildren, Ellen McKibben, Mark McKibben, Keith McKibben and Aaron Fawcett, and four great grandchildren, Brandon, Jordan, Megan and Katherine. Nicholas Hordin, Resident of Mountain View, CA, 1937 - 2010, After a courageous yearlong battle with cancer, Nicholas Edward Hordin passed away peacefully on August 7, 2010 with his family by his side. A loving husband and father, Nicholas faced his illness with dignity, grace and sometimes humor as he continued to work at his business, Hordin's Income Tax Service, up until the last few months of his life., Nicholas was born January 2, 1937 in Rochester, New York. As the ninth of ten children born to poor Russian immigrants, growing up was not always easy. After the sudden death of his father, his mother carved out a living to support the family by running an illegal brewery. Nicholas led an adventurous life as a young boy and he always had exciting stories to tell of his childhood. He often recalled the time he tried to outrun an oncoming train across a bridge only to fall one hundred feet and suffer several broken bones, or the time he and his buddies found an old Civil War rifle in a muddy river bed that fired off a round., High jinks aside, Nicholas was a good student. He found his passion for radio and sound technology as a high school student at Rochester Technical High School. Among his many technical talents, he could build any kind of radio or speaker and spent countless hours collecting radio tubes and other related parts. It was this talent that caught the eye of General Dynamics in New York where he worked for several years as an Electronics Technician. In 1961 he was recruited by Lockheed in Mountain View and he made the trip out west in his 1957 Chevy. He moved to a house on Bonita Avenue and there he literally married the girl-next-door, his wife Zada of forty-three years. After several years at Lockheed, Nicholas worked for GTE Lenkurt at night while attending school during the day. He earned degrees in finance and accounting and opened his own business Hordin's Income Tax Service in 1979. After a brief stint as a business in the family garage, Hordin's Income Tax Service soon relocated to downtown Los Altos and steadily grew to its modern day form. Nicholas was well known within the downtown Los Altos community. He loved his family, his nieces, nephews and his grandchildren. He liked to give nicknames to the kids - calling his grandson "Buster". Although he never lost his passion for radio and radio gadgetry; the grandchildren, barbeques and pool parties took priority over tinkering in the garage., Nicholas overcame the trials of a hardscrabble upbringing setting an example for all that goals can be reached with hard work and education. He was a successful businessman, father and husband and will be forever missed., He is survived by his wife Zada, his daughters Tasha Hordin and Tanya Hordin-Bell, son-in-law Zachary Bell, grandchildren Beatrice and Laszlo Bell, brother-in-law Michael Briski and wife Kathryn Briski, his nephew Kael Briski and wife Kay Briski, nieces Annika, Emily and Kamryn Briski and nephew Matthew Briski., A service will be held September 18th at 11:00 am at Spangler Mortuaries, Los Altos. |
Nicholas P. Buzaid, age 25 of Danbury, passed away on Tuesday, September 14th at Yale New-Haven Hospital, after a lengthy struggle with leukemia. He was born in New York, N.Y. on February 6, 1985, beloved son of Atty. Peter N. and Maria (Sivolella) Buzaid. He served in the United States Air Force where he was part of the Berlin Air Lift Operation in Germany. He was a graduate of The Bible Institute of Los Angeles (BIOLA) and received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from Shasta Bible College. He served as a clerk for the United States Post Office and as a lay pastor in the Los Angeles area before becoming the pastor at the Mennonite Brethren Church (Country Bible Church) in Capay, CA, near Orland. In June, 1973, he joined the staff of North Valley Baptist Church (CrossPointe Community Church). In mid 1970's he became the Assistant Pastor of North Valley Baptist, where he faithfully served for more than 37 years. He retired in March, 1999, but remained the Assistant Pastor Emeritus. He served as a teacher at Shasta Bible College. One of his greatest desires in life was to teach others how to apply the Word of God to their lives. He was a greatly loved and respected teacher, friend, helper, and mentor. May 22, 1930 - September 1, 2010 Paul was born to Lee and Pearl Dickinson in Berkley, Calif. and lived in the San Francisco area for 61 years. Paul lived the last 19 years in Cathedral City, Calif. with his partner, Bill Humphries. Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 34 years as assistant to the executive vice president. He was one of five children and is survived by his son, Lowry Mitchell of San Leandro, Calif.; his sister, Arleen Carlson of Concord, Calif.; his brother, Loy Dickinson of Colorado and Arizona; as well as his 19 nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Bourgeois; and brother, Vance Dickinson. Paul genuinely loved people, telling all those jokes, discussing everything from politics to the best brand of scotch, travel, photography, and his amazing movie collection. Paul touched the lives of countless people and maintained his trademark sense of humor to the very end. Friends and family in the Bay area will celebrate Paul's love of life on October 9, 2010. His desert family of friends will toast Paul in his desert home with the date to be announced. Peggy Bowman, who loved the Lord Jesus Christ and is now with Him in Heaven, passed away at the City of Hope on September 3, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 30, 1935 in Los Angeles, Calif. She graduated from Whittier College and taught school at Rio Hondo High School as a math teacher and High School Counselor until she retired. She married Glen Bowman in 1956. They lived in Arcadia, Calif. and spent time at a second home in the Desert area. Then they made their home at Chaparral Country Club in Palm Desert in the early 90's. Glen passed away in 1999. Peggy was very active in the Chaparral Woman's Golf Club. She was president of the Women's Golf Club and then served on the board for many years after. She is survived by her long time companion, Vee Syracuse, whom she loved dearly; and her son, David Bowman and his wife, Wendy. Peggy will be truly missed by all her close friends and all that knew her. Peggy was a lady of real class, soft spoken easy to be with and always enjoying life to the fullest. Jeres and Josie Jeres on August 4, 1959 in Brawley, Calif., and was a longtime resident of the Coachella Valley. He most recently worked as a cook at the Morongo Canyon Lanes. Phillip was a graduate from Coachella Valley High School in 1977, and received his Culinary Arts certificate from College of the Desert. Phillip is survived by his mother, Josie Jeres; sisters, Linda McPeters (Doug) of Fontana, and Mary Jo Garcia (Enrique) of Indio; brothers, Larry (Rosie) and Perry (Debi) of Indio; and the Jewel of his life, his daughter Jami Santana Jeres, plus several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was loved by his family and friends, and will be dearly missed. Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Larry Jeres; his Grandparents, Melchor and Mary Abubo. Phyllis Rebuschatis (Phyllis Jane Ackerman) passed away in her home this past week. Phyllis was a feisty and fun sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who knew her mind and what she wanted up until the very end of her life. She was born in 1922 in Topeka, KS to James and Margaret Ackerman. She married her beloved husband, Robert John Rebuschatis, on June 26, 1943. She met Robert at an armed services dance at the Savoy Hotel that she was hosting with her girlfriends. Robert Rebuschatis went on to become a revered Navy Commander, and due to this job and his later work as a flight inspector with the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA), Robert and Phyllis lived in several locations, including Coronado, CA; Fairfax, VA; and Alameda, CA. They lived out their retirement splitting their time between South Lake Tahoe, CA and Palm Desert, CA. Phyllis was involved in several groups and committees, most notably working with the California branch of the Republican National Committee with Ronald Regan. Phyllis and Robert had one child, Robert John Rebuschatis Jr., in 1946. Phyllis was very proud of her son's many achievements, and was an active member of the local chapter of the Sigma Chi Mothers' Club when he attended UC Berkeley as a member of that fraternity. Phyllis also loved attending her son's baseball games when he played on the UC Berkeley baseball team. Phyllis and Robert moved to Santa Rosa, CA in 1999 to be closer to their son. Robert Senior passed away in 2003. Phyllis is survived by her son Robert John Rebuschatis Jr. and his wife Denise, her sister Betty Fletcher, her grandchildren Abbey (Rebuschatis) Wagner, Molly Rebuschatis, and Max Rebuschatis, and her great-grandchildren Jessica, Luke, and Brady Wagner. August 10, 1940- September 11, 2010 After battling cancer for nearly 12 years, this wonderful husband and father left this earth to be reunited with his parents, Harold and Irene, and sister, Lana Anderson. Dick, as he chose to be called, is with his Heavenly Father and our Savior, Jesus Christ. His family is comforted with this knowledge, and because he no longer must suffer with the pains of this disease. He grew up in the Chico, CA area and graduated with his Masters Degree from Chico State University. His first teaching position was at Atwater High School where he continued to teach until his retirement 38 years later. His skills in woodworking and carpentry touched the lives of many young men as they gained the knowledge and experience which provided them with lifetime skills and jobs for their futures. He also shared his expertise with the community as he taught Adult Evening School. He laughed as he remembered teaching grandparents and parents of his current students. He also taught many students "in behind the wheel drivers education", which he found enjoyable because he was able to see much of the country side on a daily basis. It was during these drives that he located the land that was to be his home site. He built his beautiful home himself with the assistance of some of his family members. It was here that he with his wife, Kathie, raised their four wonderful children; Kord, Stacie, Derek, and Brooke. More than anything, he loved to fish, hunt and camp with his children. During their 48 years of marriage, he and Kathie were together constantly as they taught their children the value of work, around their home, and in their walnut orchard. His home was his dream, and his "Piece of Heaven". Dick was loved and admired by all who knew him, and especially by his family who have a lifetime of memories of "Crazy Richard" and the love they feel for him that will bind them together for eternity. Robert Harrison Lewis Passed away September 11, 2010 in Palo Alto, CA. Born 9/14/14 in Dallas, TX. Bob Lewis became a professional horseman at an early age, learning the trade from his father R. Harry Lewis. In 1942, he was drafted in the Army and married Leila Barlow while on leave in San Francisco. His R.O.T.C. training and expert marksmanship with the Browning rifle served him well in the army, allowing him to quickly advance to Sergeant and later to Captain. By the time he mustered out, he was leading a rifle company in the 79th Infantry in Normandy. During his service he was awarded 3, and a, . Back from the army and to his family with two young daughters - Bob started training show horses again as well as thoroughbreds on the Midwestern racing circuit in 1947-48. With the addition of his son to the family, he decided to focus solely on show horses, starting Bob Lewis Stables and moving his family to California in 1950. Quoting from the article "With A Command on Life" published in Horse World in 1995, when he was still a very active horseman at the age of 81, "Not many people get to lead a life as rich and full as Lewis and he has spent a lifetime doing what he truly enjoys, working horses and being around people. " Over the next 50 years, Bob Lewis became legendary for training many a champion horse and rider, with a special knack for matching riders and horses for a winning combination. His stables were based primarily at the Stanford Red Barn until he moved briefly to Southern California in the mid 1960's. He soon returned to the Peninsula, opening stables in the Portola Valley/Woodside area where he stayed for the rest of his career. Honored as United Professional Horseman of the year in 1996 and later inducted into the United Professional Horsemen's Hall of Fame, Bob was internationally-known as an expert judge of all breeds of horses in addition to his training prowess with American Saddlebreds, Morgans, and harness and Hackney ponies. Bob judged horse shows in every state of the U.S., and international shows in England, Sweden, South Africa, and Canada. He was still successfully training horses and judging shows well into his eighties, winning the last class he rode in - a five-gaited championship in July 2000 at age 85. Aside from his horsemanship, Bob was always known for his manners and southern charm. With enormous hands that made anyone whose hand he shook feel like a child and his unique, deep, rumbling voice, Bob was physically imposing yet gentle in his ways with animals and people. He was noted for being impeccably dressed and was one of the few riders who could be counted on to appear in the traditional top hat for a 3-gaited championship class. Stated in an article published in Saddle and Bridle, describing a "Roast and Toast" dinner given in his honor at the California Futurity Horse Show, "His enormous presence was felt, even now, at the young age of 90, as a giant among us. There will only be one Bob Lewis. He is an enigma. He is unique: loving, kind, and firmly opinionated but with the basis of extreme intelligence. Polite to extremes and always a gentleman. Yet he will fiercely stand up for what he believes in." Bob was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Leila, his son Robert Allan, and daughter Susan Guthrie. October 5, 1939 - September 15, 2010 Shirley Trammell, 70, was born in Arkansas on October 5, 1939, and passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 15, 2010, in Merced, CA, after an extended battle with cancer. Her life was dedicated to her four children and three grandchildren. She will be remembered for her love of card games with her family, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, movies - especially musicals, making stained glass windows, painting, and dancing with her husband in their early years. Shirley Smith grew up in Merced and worked as a waitress around town. Here she met Joe Trammell, a USAF serviceman stationed at Castle Air Force Base. They lived all over the world, wherever Joe's duty assignment was: Maine, England, South Carolina, the Philippines, Marysville, CA, New York, and finally, back to Merced. Every two years they would pack up the family and move. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Avilez, her grandson, Shawn Brunell, and her brother, Bob Smith. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Joe Trammell, her mother, Opal Avilez, both of Merced, and her children, Butch (Tamera) Trammell of Colorado, Maria (Ernie) Warzyca, Valora (Steve) Teranishi, and Joe Trammell, Jr., of Merced. She is further survived by her grandsons, Anthony Trammell and Joe (Jo Jo) Trammell, III, and one great-grandchild of Merced, her brother, Dennis (Margaret) Smith, of Georgia and her sister-in-law, Kathy Smith of Atwater. SHIRLEY E. ZORN (nee REICHERT) 78 years of age, a resident of Hemet since 1960, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2010, at Hemet Valley Medical Center from complications arising from acute interstitial pneumonitis. She was born on August 6, 1932, in Cleveland, OH to Karl and Julia Reichert. In 1954 she married Ralph R. Zorn, also of Cleveland. In 1960 they moved, with their family, to Hemet and she then devoted herself to raising her family while Ralph built the Blue Fountain Mobile Home Park. She was a long time supporter of the Ramona Humane Society and will be remembered by those who knew her for her love of animals. Early in life she loved to travel, both around the United States and to Europe. She is survived by her three sons: Jeffrey of Ithaca, NY, James of Buenos Ares Argentina, and Jonathan of Hemet, CA, and also by her sister Rose Marie of FL. Fr. Paul L. Locatelli, S.J., Resident of Santa Clara, CA, Fr. Paul Leo Locatelli, S.J., 71, Chancellor and former President of Santa Clara University, died July 12, 2010 at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center, Los Gatos. He had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year. Paul was a Jesuit for 47 years and a priest for 36 years., Paul was born in Santa Cruz on September 16, 1938 and grew up in Boulder Creek. Paul attended the University of California at Berkeley, 1956-58 and transferred to Santa Clara University, where he graduated with a degree in Accounting in January 1961. Paul served in the, and while stationed at Fort Ord, began to think seriously about a vocation to the priesthood and religious life as a Jesuit. He wished "to serve God and help people spiritually" and viewed teaching as a "laudable profession," which as a priest, would also be "edifying." He entered the Jesuit Novitiate at Los Gatos on September 7, 1962., Following studies at Gonzaga University's Mount St. Michael's campus (1965-67), Paul began doctoral studies in business administration at the University of Southern California, completing his work in 1971 with a dissertation on ethical responsibility in the professional practice of accounting. He made theology studies at the Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley, 1971-74, and was ordained to the priesthood in St. Mary's Cathedral, San Francisco, on March 23, 1974., Upon completion of studies, Paul returned to Santa Clara as Assistant Professor of Accounting. In addition to teaching he served as Associate Dean of the School of Business, 1976-78, and as Academic Vice President, 1978-86. In 1986 he was named Rector of the Jesuit Community of Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, and two years later returned to Santa Clara as the 27th President of the university., Paul was elected to four terms as President, a tribute to his outstanding abilities and balanced leadership style. Administrative evaluations were uniformly high, praising his energy, availability, and clear and forceful articulation of the University's mission. From the start as president, Paul ably coalesced the university around several themes: a need to connect more with the world outside the university and have a voice in the global dialogue; a need to increase student diversity to continue the Jesuit emphasis on education for all; and a need to tap into the rich resources of the university's Silicon Valley neighbors, entrepreneurs, and businesses., Paul was the public face of the university to the greater community and served on the boards of many local and national civic and educational organizations. He was the recipient of many awards, including the Distinguished Professor Award from the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, the 2009 David Packard Award, and the Catholic Church's "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" Award in 2001., In 2008 Paul stepped down as President after 20 years and assumed the position of Chancellor of the University and a newly established Jesuit position, Secretary for Higher Education and the Intellectual Apostolate, with an office in Rome. In this latter capacity Paul's role was to provide advice and input on education matters, encourage programs of international collaboration and convene periodic meetings of Jesuit university presidents . One of his last acts was to oversee an international meeting of Jesuit educators in Mexico City this spring., Paul was highly esteemed by his Jesuit and lay colleagues. His peers found him "generous, sensitive, and cooperative," and praised his "clear and accurate judgment" and leadership qualities. He was a deeply spiritual man. When he was diagnosed with the tumor in May, he wrote to friends, "I am looking at this as an opportunity to enrich and deepen my friendship with God, friends and family, and to better serve the people of God.", Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Marie (Piccone) Locatelli, and his sister-in-law, Carol Locatelli. He is survived by his two brothers and their families: Al Locatelli and Diane Kranich of Scotts Valley, and Harry and Lydia Locatelli of Santa Cruz. Nieces and nephews include Lynn Locatelli DVM of Watrous, NM and Russell Locatelli of McKinleyville, CA and Paul Locatelli, Amy Bosinger and Matthew Locatelli of Santa Cruz. Paul also leaves several grandnieces and grandnephews., A viewing will be held Friday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mission Church on Santa Clara's campus at 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara, CA 95053. Timothy John McInerney Passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at home in Moraga. Although Tim has joined his dear father, Tom, who died last year, hundreds of Tim's friends and relatives mourn the loss of Tim's biting wit, personal strength and warmth, and dynamic personality. Tim is survived by his loving mother, Jackie. While many enjoy a close relationship with their mothers, few forged as close a relationship as Tim did with his mom, who was his primary caregiver, friend, and confidante. Tim also leaves behind three grieving siblings, Maureen (John) McAndrews of Dana Point, Tom (Julie) McInerney of San Anselmo, and Kerry (Dale) Freeman of Berkeley. Tim is also survived by adoring nieces and nephews: Danny, Katie, Claire and Megan McAndrews; Molly and Joe McInerney; and Jackson, Leah, Alex and Erin Freeman. Tim never forgot a niece's or nephew's birthday, or school concert, or soccer or baseball game, and Uncle Timmy's bedroom walls were covered with photos of his young relatives and cards and special gifts they would bring to him to make sure he always remembered how much they loved him. Tim was born in San Francisco on Christmas Eve 1965, but grew up in Moraga. He graduated from St. Perpetua in 1980 and Campolindo High School in 1984. Many of Tim's closest friends were from those two schools, and Tim recently helped organize a high school class reunion. Tim loved his time at UC Berkeley, graduating with a degree in history in 1988. He developed a love for the Spanish language in high school. During college his interest in Spanish and Mexican culture blossomed, and he lived for six months in Seville, Spain. After college Tim worked for Pacific Bell, and later he received his teaching credential from St. Mary's College. In recent years Tim worked at UC Berkeley as a computer programmer in the Department of Information and Technology. Tim was also board secretary for CTP, a nonprofit that prepares people with disabilities for professional employment, and he was appointed by the town of Moraga to its ADA Advisory Committee. In 1991 Tim suffered a swimming accident in Mexico that left him a quadriplegic. Tim's stubborn determination in the face of his disability left those around him with awestruck admiration. In his life after his accident he was helped immensely by many volunteers, including members of the Moraga Lion's Club, which welcomed him as a member and named him "Lion of the Year." Tim has also been helped over the years by many loving neighbors, caregivers, and other friends. Tim refused to live his life defined by his disability. Instead, he was defined by his deep blue eyes, his hilarious sense of humor, his compassion for those less fortunate, and his legendary Facebook "political discussions" with his more conservative friends and relatives, all of whom miss him greatly. Friends and family are invited to a vigil on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 7 p.m., and a funeral mass on Friday, September 17, at 10:30 a.m., at St Perpetua Church, 3454 Hamlin Rd., Lafayette. Tracy Angela McBride, 30, of Palm Springs, Calif. passed away September 7, 2010 in Palm Springs. She was born April 28, 1980, to Dennis and Belinda McBride in Palm Springs, Calif. She worked in the restaurant business for 13 years. She is survived by her daughter, Nevaeh "Queen Bee" Godinez of Palm Springs; her sister, Dayna (Steve) Smith of Thousand Palms; her brother, DJ McBride of Desert Hot Springs; Uncle Richard and Aunt Debbie Godinez; Uncle Mike and Aunt Terry McBride; Aunt Connie McBride; Grandfather Ray McBride; nieces, Kaylie and Lauryn Smith and Ashley McBride and many cousins. "Jack" Vaughn Louie La Blue, 89, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 2010., Jack was born in 1921 to Leon Louis La Blue and Annie Lee Flowers in Johnson Mill Creek, Oklahoma. Jack grew up through the Great Depression with his brother Virgil and his sister Jernice. The La Blue family eventually moved to California's Central Valley and settled in Tulare. On December 24, 1938, Jack married his one true love, Eathel Witt. Jack served in the, during, , and was stationed in both the Philippines and Japan. Jack loved to tinker and he could fix anything. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends., Jack is survived by his wife of 71 years, Eathel, of Hanford; his sons, Sam La Blue of Lake Isabella and Stan La Blue of Hanford; his daughters Jackie Buster of Idaho and Tammy Boerner of Bakersfield. Velma Ray Davenport, 99, of Hanford, California departed this life on September 5, 2010 in Hanford, California., Velma was born in Mazie, Oklahoma on July 4, 1911 to Tom and Kate Ray. Her family moved to Pryer, Oklahoma where she graduated from the 8th grade and then graduated from Stillwater High School. Velma married her high school sweetheart, Clarence W. Davenport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On October 9, 1935 a beautiful baby girl, Kay A. Davenport was born at St. Anthony Hospital. Velma worked as a Nurses Aide in St. Anthony Hospital for a time. The family moved to Enid, Oklahoma where Velma worked as a x-ray technician. Clarence and Velma enjoyed traveling and lived in several states and finally settled in St. Petersburg, Florida, where they made their home for over 40 years. In 1994 Velma moved to California and settled in Hanford in 1997. California native, Virgil Earl Baker, passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2010. He was 86. The youngest of seven children he was born May 8, 1924 in Pepperwood, California, to William Everett Baker and Eva Luella Trine Baker. Virgil loved to tell the story of how his mother crossed the country with a wagon train but preferred to walk because the wagon rides were so rough. He spent his early childhood in rural Oregon roaming the woods and learning depression era skills. A strong work ethic, self-discipline and a stubborn streak allowed him to remain independent his entire life. He served in the, from 1943 to 1946 stationed in the Western Pacific. Virgil met the love of his life, Betty Mae Murphy in 1949 thru mutual friends. They were married on December 2, 1950 in Reno, NV. They were together for 34 years, until her death in December 1984. In 1957 Virgil, Betty and oldest son Steven who was five at that time moved onto the acre of land given to them by Betty's parents. "Baker Acre" has been a place to go home to for over 50 years and has seen three generations of kids playing, running and laughing in its fields and creek. Virgil began work for Pacific Bell as a lineman in 1950 and retired 31 years later. A master craftsman his gifts of unique woodworks and homemade knives are treasured by his family. Blue jeans and plaid shirts covered every occasion. Country western music and old westerns. A glass of red wine and a handful of peanuts. Knives never went in the sink. The compost bucket on the stove, recycle bags by the fridge, camping at Lake Trinity, home grown veggies, bon fires and working on cars with his granddaughters. When he whistled you knew he was content. He enjoyed the goldfinches that flew in every morning, and favored the one he called "Lonesome Dove" because he had no mate. He lived to be outdoors and this love showed in his gardens, fruit trees and landscaping. He once said he could "live his forever on a 40 acre farm." No matter what their age, Virgil drew people to him like moths to a flame. His gentle manner and well rounded knowledge were the perfect formula and you just wanted to be around him. Virgil lived his life to please God. A patient man of strong faith whose steadfastness and sacrifice for what he believed in have been an inspiration to his children. He cherished the friendships and common bond he shared with his study group. He played a cutthroat game of hearts and was always the first to initiate the Baker wrestling matches with his grandchildren and great-grand children. Virgil loved to play the harmonica and had recently begun to teach one of his great grandsons how to play as well. Another great-grandson was fascinated with tools. Virgil would spend many hours answering questions about what each tool was and how it worked. He was a very loving and patient man. Virgil was thrilled to have his youngest great grandson named after him and his grandpa Eli Baker. Virgil was preceded by his wife Betty, his bride of 34 years. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Steven and Joan Baker of Santa Rosa, Gary and Vicki Baker of Wasilla, AK, Randy and Kim Baker of Santan Valley, AZ and Denise Baker of Susanville, CA; grandchildren: Angelle Holmes, Brandy Baker, Felicity Baker, Ian Baker of Santa Rosa, Amber Kinard of Petaluma, April Bennett of Kuna, ID, Lindsey Baker and Michael Baker of Wasilla, AK, Kashaela Mullinax, Chelcea Baker, Chase Baker and Kaden Baker of Santan Valley, AZ; sister Nina Pilcher of Utah nine great grandchildren and many others who considered him mentor, loved one and friend. A graveside service is planned for 10:00 a.m., Saturday September 18th at Shiloh Cemetery, Windsor. A Celebration of Life will be held at "Baker Acre", the home he lived in for over 50 years, on Sunday September 19th, between 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Please bring a favorite dish to share at the potluck. William C Birdsey, Sr Sept 26, 1911- Aug 21 2009 Bill passed away peacefully at his home on August 21, 2009. He was born September 26, 1911 in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to California and settled in Pasadena when Bill was a boy. He attended CalTech and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering which he applied during his career. Bill retired from Fiberboard Corporation as Vice President of Operations for California. After he retired he served on the Board of Directors of the Flintkote Corporation. Bill was married twice and was a devoted and loving husband. He married his first wife Betty Creswell upon graduation and they spent 23 years together. They had 2 children Betsey and Bill. After Betty's untimely death from cancer, Bill moved the family to San Francisco. There he met and married Jean Andre. They were married for 46 wonderful and loving years. Bill loved sailing. It was his passion in life whether it be racing or cruising he was truly at home on the water. He imparted this passion with family and friends thru out his life. In his youth he built his first sailboat and plied the waters of Lake Michigan. After the family moved to California he built a Star. With Betty and the family in tow he cruised the Southern Cal waters. He frequently sailed to the Channel Islands, first on a 28ft sloop and then a 44ft schooner. It was on the San Francisco Bay that Bill started racing. He became a member of the San Francisco and Saint Francis Yacht Clubs. He acquired a Cal 40 "Seabird III" which he raced in the San Francisco Bay, the Trans Pac to Hawaii and up and down the California coast. If a race was scheduled Bill, "Seabird III" and crew were most likely there. In 1977 Jean and William embarked on a six-year sailing adventure. They purchased a Whitby 42 "SEABIRD V" and sailed all of the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway and from Maine to Florida. They then brought the boat to British Columbia to complete their journey. In 1983 the St Francis yacht Club awarded the Harter-Jacks Perpetual Cruising Trophy to Bill. Bill is survived by his sister Ruth Burr, children Betsy Fraser-Smith, Bill Birdsey II, Noble A. "Rocky" Birdsey, 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at noon on Sunday, September 26 at the San Francisco Yacht Club in Tiburon. William Earnshaw was born in Korea in 1956 to Alvin and Mary Earnshaw, and was raised in Cotati by his mother. He passed away on September 9, 2010 after a valiant four-year battle with cancer. He has been married for 35 years to Shelley, who was also his childhood sweetheart and neighbor. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Erin, who is a multi-lingual school, at a local middle school, and his son Jeff, who owns a furniture store in Placerville Ca, along with daughter-in-law, Amanda, and grandson Ben. Another grandchild is due in the Spring. William was very proud of both of his children. He also leaves behind his sister-and brother-in-law, Linda and Doug Stubbs, and their two grown children Michael and Becky, and her daughter Kaili. Willie was well known in the construction industry for his innovation, work ethic, and loyalty. Throughout his career he worked at Oak Grove Construction, Packard Paving, and for the last 25 years at North Bay Construction; most recently as vice president of Field Operations. Willie was an amazing mentor who would give or do anything for anyone. He will also be remembered for the many practical jokes he played on his fellow co-workers. William was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and diving for abalone. He was a member of the Petaluma; Valley of the Moon and Pt Arena trap clubs. He was a member Petaluma Elks lodge #109. William was a lifelong classic car and motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed participating in the Redwood Run and in many car shows. He also loved taking his Jeep on the Rubicon Trail with family and friends. William will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be interred at Santa Rosa Memorial Park, following a small family service. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at 431 Payran St, Petaluma, at 12:00 noon.
