Anthony Mario Ubaldi Tony passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 16th, 2010 at the age of 92 while surrounded by family. Tony was born June 18th, 1918 in Fodinovoa, Italy in a family of eleven brothers and sisters. He worked in the shipyard at a young age of sixteen to help support his family after his parents' death. He eventually served in the Italian Navy from 1939-1945 participating in many naval battles on the Mediterranean Sea during, . He immigrated to the United States in 1947 working on the early stages of the Interstate highway system in Massachusetts. He married and had a daughter named Tina. He became an ironworker, after his divorce, moved to California and there he met his beloved wife Jan and became the father of four boys. He worked for many years as an Ironworker with Local #377 out of San Francisco. Tony worked on various famous landmarks including the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge, Larkspur Ferry Terminal, and The San Francisco Federal Building. He retired in 1976 from injuries sustained as an ironworker and raised his five children. A lifelong resident of Marin County, he eventually moved to Petaluma with his wife Jan in 1989. Tony is preceded in death by his wife Jan, who died in 2005, survived by a sister in Santa Monica, five children; Mario, John, Peter, Paul, Tina, and three grandchildren; Dominic, Julia, and Chiara. Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Liturgy on Monday, September 20, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary & Crematory, 850 Keokuk Street, Petaluma, CA. A visitation will be held on the same day from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Alek Senin Feller, 18, of Palm Desert, Calif. died Tuesday September 7, 2010 in the Town of Delafield, Wisc. Alek Feller was born in Suceava, Romania on March 16, 1992, the son of Dr. John F. Feller and Mrs. Karen E. Feller of Palm Desert. He was a student at St John's Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Palm Desert. Even as a teenager, Alek uniquely combined a great work ethic with a strong spirit of altruism including founding and leading a Haiti relief fund that generated thousands of dollars for the Red Cross in Haiti. Alek was an exemplary athlete attaining varsity letters in tennis and cross country while attending St John's. He reached the Wisconsin State Finals in men's singles tennis in 2010. An encounter with Alek, even by a stranger, inevitably left one with a smile or a laugh, gifts in a world that can be aloof and impersonal. Alek dearly loved his family and was a lover of animals. He is survived by his parents; brother, John Kyle Feller of Boston, Mass.; his sisters, Kaitlin Sarah Feller of Notre Dame, Ind. and Emma Elizabeth Feller of Palm Desert; his grandparents, John Robert Feller of Lake Milton, Ohio, Margaret Ann Rowland of Massillon, Ohio, Maureen and Leo Bossy of Montreal, Quebec in Canada; and God-parents, Ted Joseph Feller and Ellen Joy Sroka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church in Palm Desert, CA at 1:30 PM on Friday, September 17, 2010. Alice Atikian Alice peacefully passed into rest on September 9, 2010, with her daughter holding her hand. She was 96. Alice was born in Newark, NJ, on April 18, 1914, to Mina and Dikran Chooljian. She was the eldest of their five children who all predeceased her. After completing her business college degree, she became secretary to the president of a large department store on Fifth Avenue in New York. In 1937, Alice met and married Hrandt Atikian (deceased) and they immediately set forth on the big adventure of driving across the country and establishing a photo engraving business in San Francisco. She was a homemaker for many years but could not stay away from the business world. She worked for Bank of America for 18 years and retired at the age of 70 from a supervisory position. Alice and Hrandt had two children Richard (deceased) and Valerie. Alice is also survived by many loved nieces and nephews and wonderful friends. In particular, Donna Blades, who always found time to call Aunty and say Hi. In her younger years, Alice was very involved in her church, St. Gregorys, serving as a Sunday school teacher. She was an original member and treasurer of the Antelias Seminary Association. Alices daughter would like to thank her mothers caregiver, Martha Pingol, for making her mothers days so happy these last few years. She would also like to thank her physician, Leslie Squires MD, who was the advocate Valerie was looking for. Valerie would finally like to thank Kevin Bush and Gerry Tanti for being with her at the hospital and supporting her during this difficult time. Alice was a good, kind Christian woman who did her best for her family and friends. She will be missed. Allen Wellington Shelton, Jr., Resident of San Mateo, On the evening of Friday, September 10th, Allen Wellington Shelton, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home at the Peninsula Regent in San Mateo. He had experienced life in the fullest sense of the word, having been married to his beloved wife Wynne for 56 years, and with whom he raised four children and traveled the world. Allen was born on July 20, 1918, in Brooklyn, New York to Allen W. and Marion Brown Shelton. He was a product of the Princeton Country Day School, Berkshire Preparatory School and Williams College, where he graduated in 1940 with a B.S. in Physics. He had planned on graduate school at Columbia University, but his plans were cut short by WWII. Drafted into the U.S. Army and assigned to the Coast Artillery, it wasn't long before he was selected for Officer Candidate School, an assignment with the Combat Engineers and deployment as a young lieutenant, serving in Italy, North Africa and the Philippines. At the war's conclusion, he was hired by Will Scientific in NYC, where he climbed the ladder and eventually became Vice President and Technical Director. During this period, he met Winifred Claire Fields, as the result of a blind date. A storybook romance ensued and they were married in 1947. Allen and Wynne had four children: Donald Bruce, Pamela Jean, Nancy Lee and Carol Anne. A job transfer took the family to Rochester, New York and, ultimately, the Bay Area, where Allen completed his career serving with Van Waters & Rogers and, finally, Varian Associates. Upon retirement, the couple wished to remain active and, at the same time, indulge their passion for international travel. The result was All Wynds Travel in San Mateo, their first (and only) foray into the world of small business ownership. Their loyal and extensive client base (both leisure and corporate) resulted in a very successful agency, with a staff of six and a reputation for travel expertise. When they finally sold the agency to their staff, their Hillsborough home became the point from which they would continue their global travels. Their adventures to over 200 countries resulted in an invitation to join the prestigious Century Club (limited to those who can document travel to at least 100 countries). Allen's community involvements included the Kiwanis Club, the Commonwealth Club, and the Friendship Force, among many others. His heart, however, belonged to the Congregational Church of San Mateo, where he was a long time member and supporter. An active philanthropist, he was an avid supporter of the Southern Poverty Law Center and of daughter Pam's Botswana Book Project. Aside from travel, his passions included skiing, sailing, Civil War history, the many social activities orchestrated by his wifeand time spent with his four grandchildren. Allen's beloved wife Wynne passed away in 2004, and he moved shortly thereafter to the Peninsula Regent. In addition to his wife, Allen was preceded in death by his brother Greg and his sister Meredith, and is survived by his four children and four grandchildren., Allen personified the word gentleman. The genuine warmth he exuded, his kindness, his love of animals and his (at times delightfully mischievous) sense of humor made him a favorite of all who met him. Barbara B. Allen went home to her Lord and Savior on September 14, 2010 in Hanford, CA., Barbara was born in Altus, Oklahoma on September 1, 1929 to Burley and Maudie Lee Bagley. She was raised on an 80 acre farm in Humphreys, Oklahoma with two brothers and four sisters. Jack Bagley (deceased) of Humphreys, OK; Nathan (N.F.) Bagley (deceased) of Humphreys, OK; Frances Potts (deceased) of Huntington Beach, CA; Murrel George (deceased) of Bakersfield, CA; Doris Hansen of Rockwall, TX; and Allene Stiefel of Porterville, CA., After high school, she attended a business school and after graduating moved to the Los Angeles area with her young daughter, Patricia. She met her future husband, George Allen, through a mutual friend at her work for Security National Bank. George also had a daughter, Rochelle, from a previous marriage. George and Barbara were married on April 1, 1960 (She always had a good sense of humor!)., She continued to work at the bank moving her way up to Loan Officer. After having their only son together, Steven in 1965, she became a full time mom. The family moved to Hanford in 1979 when George accepted a job with Tulare County as a milk inspector. After Steven graduated from high school, she went back to work for the Hanford School District as an Administration Assistant for a number of years before retiring., She enjoyed doing needlepoint, cross stitching, crocheting, gardening, and canning. She loved to get together with family and friends. She was active in her church at First Baptist in Hanford where she was involved in numerous Sunday School classes, Bible studies, SAM (Senior Adult Ministries), women's groups and helped out cooking and cleaning for the Wednesday night dinners for many years., She is survived by three children, Patricia Groves, husband Jim of Escondido, CA; Rochelle Hoffman of Petaluma, CA; and Steven Allen, wife Lindy of Hanford, CA. There are seven grandchildren, Jason Groves, wife Becky of Omaha, NE; Kendra (Groves) Hankins, husband Eric of Glen Allen, VA; Jeremy Groves of Columbus, OH; Andrea (Hoffman) Bowen, husband Robert of Kadota AFB Tokyo, Japan; Nicole Rogers, Daniel Allen and Shae Allen all of Hanford, CA. Betty J. Wise June 24, 1925 - July 3, 2010 Betty went home to the Lord on the afternoon of July 3rd , 2010 after a short battle with ovarian cancer. As she quietly left us, she was surrounded by friends, family and our prayers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl Wilhelm (Bill) and Cora Schultz of Julesburg, CO; brothers, Pat Schultz and Merle Schultz, also from Julesburg; sister, Evelyn Repp of Crook, CO; and her husband of over 50 years, Ray Wise of Delano. Beverly Jane Schuler Beverly Schuler, 81, of Redding, California, died August 26, 2010 at Marquis Care Center surrounded by family and friends. She was born July 25, 1929, in Oakland, California, moved to the Redding area with her husband and family in 1964. Her husband Joseph Schuler of 53 years, died in 2000. Beverly and her husband were very involved in the community specifically the Foster Parent Association of Redding for 14 years and were named Foster Parents of the Year. Beverly was known as a woman who spoke her mind, had a great sense of humor and made friends very easily. At the nursing home where she lived she became a very popular resident and was always visiting with staff in her room. She even had visits from her former dog Peanut who was her pride and joy which the staff adopted and arranged for her to have visits with him from time to time. (Those were her good days). Beverly's family would like to thank the staff of Marquis Care Center for the kindness and care they showed her everyday. We would also like to share our appreciation to all Bev's friends for their love and concern. Survivors include six children, Joseph, Jane, Mark, Tag, Andy and Steven and a brother Jim, of Concord, California; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her beloved dog Peanut. Hanford resident Bill Maytubby, 74, passed away of heart failure complicated by his diabetes at his home Monday, Sept. 13, 2010., Bill was formerly of Lamont, Calif. He was retired over 40 years service within the banking industry. He will be best remembered for his love for his family and dedication to his job and the community he lived in. His later years were spent taking care of his wife and spending as much time as possible with his 11 grandchildren., He is survived by his wife, Sue Maytubby; two sons, Dan and Lynnette Maytubby of Frisco, Texas and David and Rebecca Maytubby of Boulder, Colorado; a daughter, Jehri and Kevin Clarke of Clovis; a brother, Morris E. Bea was born on Sept. 11, 1921, in Harmony, Minn., to Norwegian immigrants Christian Jensen and Ronnaug Sather., She passed away peacefully on Sept. 10, one day shy of her 89th birthday, in Vacaville, Calif., Bea and a friend traveled to California during World War II where she quickly found work as a lathe operator building ships in the Bay Area. She was proud of her contributions to the war effort as a "Rosie the Riveter." Near the end of the war, she met a young sailor named Emer Rott, whom she married on Feb. 3, 1945. In 1953, she and her family moved to Dixon, Calif., a community she loved for over 50 years. She traveled to Minnesota often to visit a large extended family and even traveled to Norway for a large reunion organized in her honor., Bea worked for Dr. Verl Knight for many years as an assistant in his dental practice. She often volunteered her time on behalf of her community., She was a member of the Dixon Women's Improvement Club, Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Moose Lodge and Soroptimists International. Over the years she held many leadership positions in local organizations. She also volunteered her time at the Dixon Community and Methodist Church. Bea looked forward to the Dixon May Fair and always found a way to participate in the parade or activities at the fair grounds. She was an outstanding cow milker and often teamed up with others to win the cow milking contests, a skill she acquired on the dairy her family owned in Minnesota., Bea is survived by her son, Dan; daughter-in-law, Joan; and three grandchildren, Erik, Tara and Ivan; a brother, Harold and sisters, Ruth and Margaret, of Chatfield, Minn.; and a sister, Gladys, of Reno, Nev. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emer; daughter, Dian; and brother, Norval., A memorial service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Dixon United Methodist Church. Captain Edwin A. Prothero passed away at the age of 89 in his home in Rancho Palos Verdes on September 8, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Edwin was born in Fernhill Heath, Worcester England on April 7, 1921. He served in the British Merchant Navy for 20 years, immigrated to California in 1965, and worked as a surveyor with a marine and cargo shipping company in Los Angeles for 20 years. Dolores was preceded in death by her father, Leland Denton; mother, Phillis Denton and her loving husband of 55 years, Harold Day. Dolores was a proud and loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, and cousins and also the many life time friends that she and Harold made along the way that were so important to her in life. Dolores graduated from Avenal High where she loved to ballroom dance and met the love of her life, Harold Day. Harold and Dolores married July 27, 1946 in Avenal, CA. They moved around quite a bit before settling in Bakersfield, CA and raising their family. Dolores received her AA in Child Development and went on to become a preschool teacher for Shafter Labor Camps all while helping run Harold's businesses DAYCO Pipe Service and H&D Equipment. Dolores enjoyed being the PTA room mother and participating in any activities which kept her family together. She spent numerous years with her mother, Phillis researching the family genealogy and in later years traveled with her husband, Harold and their many wonderful friends. Being so close to her family and friends gave her great joy in life. Donald (Donny) O. Cullum December 21, 1960 - September 14, 2010 Donald O. Cullum was born in Bakersfield, CA to Don and Barbara Cullum on Dec. 21, 1960. He attended local schools, then moved to New Mexico when he was 19. Donny returned home to be around family in 2007. He as a very talented drummer, playing with Johnny Rodriquez as the opening act for Hank Williams Jr. as well as going on tour with Alabama. He was honest, kind and loved to help others. Donny fought his demons and tried to take his life's lessons to help others not have to experience the things he had. He led a meeting at Mary K. Shell Mental Health and always hoped that he had helped at least one person to take their life back from addictions. Donny was preceded in death by his father, Don and leaves behind his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Bill Johnston; two brothers, Terry and Jeff Cullum; a sister, Sherry Frye; two step-brothers, Ken and Joe Johnston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris Molyneux passed away on Wednesday, September 15 2010 at the age of 90. She was born in Puyallup, WA on November 10, 1919. She married Sgt. Edward T. Jorgensen in 1941, a career army soldier of children, Thomas and Christine. The family moved to Redding in 1957. Ed passed away in 1966. Doris married Pastor Bill Molyneux in 1968. Doris was a devoted Christian wife and mother. She was a good friend and a generous person. Her industriousness and concern for others was demonstrated by her 20 years of volunteer work with the Redding Food Bank. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Redding. Doris is survived by daughter Christine and son-in-law Larry; daughter in-law Sandra; grandchildren Perry, Jessica, Joanne, and Jeff; and ten great-grandchildren. Died suddenly in his Santa Rosa Home on Wednesday September 8, 2010. He was 26 years old. Born in Santa Cruz on November 26th, 1983, he moved to Santa Rosa with his mother and brother 12 years ago. He went to Santa Rosa High School for only a short while before graduating from Ridgway High School, class of 2002. He attended Santa Rosa Junior College for several years dreaming of becoming a football star. Everyone knew him as a very respectable man with a gentle and loving heart. Always very protective, generous and supportive to his family and friends. In 1961 she moved to Hanford and served as a surgery nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital for many years before changing to Hanford Community Hospital. She resided there for many years before moving to New York, Hawaii, and finally San Rafael, California, where she lived for the past 50 years and will be dearly missed. Fleda passed away on Friday, April 9, 2010, after a long illness. She was born in Long Beach, CA, on January 26, 1924, the daughter of Ray and Vera Krone. Her childhood years were spent in Arcata, San Bruno, and Palo Alto, CA. She graduated from Palo Alto High School, and became one of the pioneers of the Palo Alto Children's Theater. She received her BA from Stanford University in Theater Arts and Costume Design. In 1950 she married William Evans, and on April 8, 2010, they celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. A year ago Fleda and Bill moved to Loomis, CA, from Los Altos Hills, to be near their family., Fleda shared her love of the theater through teaching drama education at San Jose State University and directing plays for amateur theater groups in her home town of Los Altos, CA. Free Clark Nunziati, Resident of San Mateo, Born October 26, 1919, died peacefully on September 14, 2010., Free Clark was born in Yuba City, Ca, the daughter of William Beckwith and Free Burnham Clark. She served her country as an officer in the US Navy during WWII as a navy nurse. She married Jesse Gerald Nunziati of Pescadero, Ca. in 1951 and was widowed in 1975. For many years she divided her time between San Mateo, Ca. and Incline Village, NV. She was a talented bridge player, avid gardener and intrepid traveler. Gene (Eugene D.) Warren, Resident of San Carlos, Age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on September 15, 2010. He suffered from a blood disease, MDS, for the past 3 months., Born in Rochester, NY he grew up in Minneapolis. Gene served in the Navy during WWII. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University where he was a member of Acacia Fraternity. Gene was one of the pioneers in live television at CBS in New York as director of special effects. He later worked for Theater Network Television where he worked with large screen television displays including the large monitors at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. He also took part in the first television signal to be sent from a satellite., He and his wife of 56 years, Betty, moved to California in 1969 where he worked for International Video designing television broadcast equipment. Later at Fotomat, he developed the system of converting film to tape. He then worked for Rank Video and designed a system for reproducing multiple video tapes from one master for which he holds several patents. Gene and Betty retired to Santa Rosa, Ca in 1992. In Santa Rosa they were active in volunteer groups - the Welfare League, SCORE and Wells Fargo Center for the Arts. They moved to San Carlos in 2008. Gene will be remembered for his ever present smile, gentle and congenial manner, his wit and inventive spirit. passed away on Thursday September 14th, 2010 after a long struggle with dementia. She was 94 years old. She is survived by her husband Sid Sharples, her daughter Nancy, her step-daughter Diane, and her step-son, Sidney. She was born in Kansas and moved to Los Angeles in the 30's where she attended UCLA. She became a high school teacher for over 40 years, first physical education then American history. She also taught dance, the drum and buggle corps and the leadership class composed of the students elected to school office. After her retirement, she became a docent at the LA County Museum of Art and she and husband Sid volunteered for the Red Cross. But her first love was weaving and she became very involved with the Handweavers Guild of American, becoming the national secretary and organizing one of their annual conferences, a huge undertaking which occupied her for most of a year. Her enthusiasm for knitting, spinning and weaving merged with Sid's mastery of woodworking to produce over 200 amazingly intricate spinning wheels. Genevah was adventurous and possessed energy, enthusiasm and optimism for life. She took great enjoyment from the people and experiences throughout her journeys. She loved to travel, to try new food and to meet new people. There will be a memorial gathering at Timber Ridge, McKinleyville on Saturday at 2:00 PM for those wishing to help celebrate her life. Gordon Lee Goodman, known to most as Lee, passed away September 16, 2010 surrounded by family and loved ones in Indio, Calif. Born March 2, 1952 to Vada Marie and Jesse Carl Goodman, he grew up in Riverside County and moved to the desert to attend Indio High School (1968-69). He and Denise Goodman (Yeakel) had a daughter, Lindsay Goodman, who he raised with absolute love and dedication. A lover of animals and the outdoors, Lee owned a successful landscaping and construction business in the desert area. Above all, he was a good-hearted man who was quickly loved by those lucky enough to cross his path. With a keen sense of justice and fairness, he was a father figure to many young nieces and nephews, the children of his 12 siblings. Lee was a philosopher at heart, always searching for the right path, and he eagerly engaged many in debate. Lee is survived by his daughter, Lindsay Goodman of San Diego; and sisters, Mary Malotte of Palm Desert, Linda Nelson of Banning, and Barbara Francisco of Yucaipa. Jacob Clay Green 1990 - 2010 On the 13th of September 2010, Jacob Clay Green passed away from this earth and entered into eternity. Jacob was 20 years old and resided in Bakersfield, California. Jacob Green was born in Bakersfield on June 18, 1990. From a very young age, the love Jacob had for others was apparent. He was a kind and caring person, always ready to offer an encouraging word, or help at any time. His kind and tender heart was exemplified in his love for animals, Jacob was always ready to take in any creature he found and care for it diligently and tenderly. To the occasional dismay of his mother, many a stray dog was given food, shelter, and love by Jacob. Jacob loved to be with his family, he spent a great deal of time with his grandparents. Jacob learned to sail the Hobicat from his favorite skipper his grandpa Jack, whom he loved dearly. Jacob spent many summers helping his grandpa Jack with his plumbing business and used those skills often to help friends and family. Jacob also loved tattoo artistry and made many friends in the local shops. Jacob is survived by parents, Joy Winter-Green and Larr Green; grandparents, Jack and Gene Winter; daughter, Jayden Gray-Green; girlfriend, Alisha Gray; Aunt Robin Bowker; Uncle Davin Bowker; and nephews, Quinn and Jack Bowker; Aunt Paulette Winter; Uncle Larry and Christa Winter; nephew, Nicolas; and niece, Charlize Winter; along with multitudes of extended family and close friends. James Hobart Davidson, 54, was a recent resident of La Quinta, CA. He was born in San Pedro and lived there most of his life. Jim graduated from San Pedro High School in 1974 and then earned an associate's degree at Los Angeles Harbor College. He retired from AT&T after 22 years as a customer service representative. Music was Jim's passion. He learned to play the clarinet in junior high. He played in San Pedro High School's marching band, Los Caballeros marching band, performed with Harbor College's band, and was performing with the Desert Winds Freedom Band of Palm Springs when he passed away. He loved to travel. He saw most of the United States and Hawaii was his favorite. Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, John, and his brother, David. The Heavens have a new star. On Friday, September 10, 2010 at dawn, Jan Francis Hasman made his transition. Never once did he complain during his six-month battle with lung cancer. With his wife, Sara and several family members lovingly at his side, he peacefully drew his last breath. Jan was a self-taught, well-known and respected musician for over 40 years. His incredible voice, tenor saxophone and piano will be greatly missed by his many fans. His love of music and words was only surpassed by his devotion to family and his many friends. Jan and Sara met while performing on stage in the fall of 1982 and were married December 11, 1983 at Morton's Botanical Gardens by Dr. Tom Costa of the Religious Science Church of the Desert. Dr. Costa later became their pastor and dear friend. Musician, poet and Real Estate Broker, his public faces but to his family and friends he was larger than life. We have so many wonderful memories. Thank you, God for giving us him for so many loving years. Janet Neil was born in Tacoma, Wash., Aug. 3, 1945. With her loving husband Jerry, devoted family and dearest friends by her side, Janet passed peacefully into the arms of God on Sept. 6, at her beautiful home on the family ranch in Winters., Janet fought a courageous 3-year battle with cancer, without so much as a single complaint. Janet enjoyed life to the fullest, even during her toughest days she would say, "I am the luckiest woman in the world, I was blessed with a wonderful husband, loving friends. I have traveled the world and I have so much to be thankful for." She was truly more concerned for others than herself., Janet loved horses, nature, photography, antique cars and vintage clothing. She only knew one way to do something and that was "the best" she possibly could. Her contact with nature was something to behold, whether it be at her Eagle Lake cabin or her beautiful home in Winters. She loved to be surrounded by bald eagles, grey foxes, mountain Quail and deer. One of her favorite hobbies was to photograph wildlife, especially birds, and the joy she got sharing the photos with her husband Jerry. "What a team we made" Janet would always say., Janet and Jerry operated family businesses their entire marriage of 43 years. Some of Jerry's fondest memories were of Janet as a young lady giving horse riding lessons to children on a ranch in Sacramento, or touring their old cars through the mountains of Colorado, dressed in vintage clothing. Though, Janet and Jerry had no children of their own, they impacted many lives of children in the community. Jean Griffiths, 90, died in Palm Springs, Calif. on September 15, 2010. Jean was born November 12, 1919 to Maude and Charles Comstock in San Francisco, Calif. She worked in San Francisco and Oakland all her life. Jean retired from US Steel after 30 years, she then worked for Bechtel Group for 13 years, and then moved to the Russian River area, where she worked as a hostess for the Russian River Resort. In 2003, Jean moved to Palm Springs with her two close friends and caregivers, Ray and Paul. Jean Katherine Gay, age 71 of Bethel, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. Jean was born in Norwalk, January 27, 1939, a daughter of the late Harry and Katherine (Barrett) Bartlett. She attended Norwalk schools and graduated from Norwalk High School. She was employed in years past with the Edwards Co. of Norwalk and retired from Bethel Burger King in 2006 after twenty-two years of dedicated service. An avid NY Yankees fan, she also enjoyed knitting and bingo and was a member of the Bethel Senior Center. Jean will be sadly missed by her children, James Gay III and his wife, Karen of Danbury, Jill Sousa and her husband, John of Danbury and Joy Steinmiller and her husband, Fred of Bethel; two granddaughters, Samantha and Katheryn Sousa; and many nieces and nephews. She will also be sadly missed by her cats, Domino and four legged grandchildren, Dallas and Chyna. She also leaves behind many friends at Bishop Curtis Home of Bethel. Jean Suzette Costello Ballard was born September 24, 1922, in San Francisco, California. She was the only daughter of Edna Ann Maguire and Thomas Joseph Costello. Jean lived in San Francisco and spent most of her summers at the family ark in Larkspur. During World War II Jean worked for the FBI in the Censorship Bureau reviewing letters and documents for strategic, classified information. After the war Jean married Kelly Paris Ballard. Kelly was the love of her life. Together they shared 53 years of marriage. Jean loved art, music, gardening and baking cookies but she was most passionate about politics. She was progressive in thought and a woman well ahead of her time. She was loving, caring, joyful and a genuinely funny person. She created an environment that elevated those around her. Kelly was fun-loving, sweet, kind and full of life. He was a man of many talents including: gardening, oil painting, wood working, rock collecting and a multitude of other interests. Together Jean and Kelly had three children, Kelly Ballard (Kathy); Thomas Ballard (Roxene); Darlene Mola (Monty), 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Jean passed away on September 12, 2010 and Kelly passed on October 26, 1997. The two are joined again in love and spirit. Jean and Kelly will live on and thrive through the values instilled in their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They will be forever remembered by their family and friends. Jennifer Feinstein, 58, suddenly passed away on September 10, 2010 with her family by her side in Torrance, CA. Jenny was raised in El Monte, CA as the only daughter of William and Margaret Hamm of Whidbey Island, WA. She eventually moved to the South Bay in 1985 and had been a resident of Redondo Beach ever since then. Jenny ran her own business specializing in construction, accounting and management. She was respected by many in the South Bay construction community as someone very knowledgeable, trustworthy and thorough. Jenny was a fun-loving person filled with love and generosity. Her pride and joy was being a mother to her 4 children. She always put the needs of her loved ones before her own and was happiest when seeing her children succeed as a direct result of the love and support that she provided. She leaves behind her parents; her children: Erica and Daniel Walsh, Andrea Clar, Jonathan Feinstein, Lauren Feinstein; two brothers: Chris and Alice Hamm, Larry Hamm and Lisa Anderson; her grandchildren: Riley Ludeke, Rory Ludeke, Karina Ludeke, Catherine Walsh, and Lillian Walsh; and many extended family members, colleagues and friends. Jesse Lee Culver of Atascadero lost his valiant battle Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010. He was born in Galveston, Texas, in December 1938, and came to California while in the U.S. Navy in 1960. He retired as a manager for Lockheed Martin in San Jose, Calif. His happiest times were being with family, dancing and lately, keeping score for Justin''s teams in the Paso Robles Pony League baseball. Joe Morello On September 3, 2010 Joe Morello passed from this life surrounded by his family. Having enjoyed 80 years of family, business, sports, and golf, Joe succumbed after a hard-fought battle with multiple myeloma. A gentleman, a man of integrity, honesty, kindness, and generosity, Joe is survived by the family of which he was so proud - his wife (Augie) of 58 years, his children and their spouses (Linda Morello and Javier Gomez, John and Heather Morello, Joe Morello and Trish Breslin), 4 grandchildren (Catherine, Hannah, Mateo, and Anna Morello), cousins and family, and his beloved dog, Tuffy. Joe, son of Maria and John Morello of Mill Valley, lived 77 years of his life in Marin County. He graduated from Park School and Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, and he earned an AA from the College of Marin. A great athlete, Joe was co-captain of his schools' baseball teams and a member of the Jr. Seals. He was a co-founder of the Southern Marin Little League and he coached numerous Little League and C.Y.O. basketball teams. A dedicated fan of the 49ers (season ticket holder) and the Giants, Joe enjoyed both playing and watching sports. The day after Joe married Augie, IJ columnist Jim Gilmartin wrote "Tiburon third sacker Joe Morello didn't show up for his team's game yesterday. Joe was too busy - getting married. The new auxiliary third sacker is the former Augie Perry." And, Joe loved golf, playing several times every week and planning his calendar around his golf games. Joe's great passion was the business in which he co-partnered with the Canepa family - the Mill Valley Market. Both Jim and Bob Canepa were respected and beloved business partners and friends with whom he shared 35 years in business. As the produce buyer at the Mill Valley Market, Joe dedicated himself to bringing the freshest and best produce to his customers and in meeting their special wants and needs. He took pleasure in learning everything he could about fine foods and wines and sharing that with family, friends, and customers. No one could barbecue a steak or prepare a crab dip quite like Joe. At his 50th wedding anniversary, he remarked that he was "the luckiest man in the world" - he had had a business, a wife, and a family he loved. Joe was a member of numerous organizations (SIRS Branch 47, Italian Catholic Federation, Italian Athletic Club). He dedicated his time to his children's schools and to his parish. He enjoyed many friendships - other gentlemen who shared his love of sports, enjoyed his company, and supported him during these past two years of declining health. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Joe and his family wish to express their gratitude to the staff of the Greenbrae Care Center for their extraordinary and compassionate care. And, Joe held his physicians (Dr. Robert Van Herick and Dr. Bobbie Head) in the highest esteem. He valued and respected their care and treatment. January 19, 1923 – August 17, 2010 Joe R. Cardona was born in Riverside, Calif. and lived briefly in San Diego before relocating to Palm Springs in the early 1950's. He was owner of Roman Tile, a tile contracting company, until his retirement. Joe is survived by his son Tommy Cardona, his wife Sherry and their two children along with his daughter Laura Giddings, her husband Rod, their four children and grandchildren. In addition, Joe has four sisters, Evelyn Negreti, Chona Aldama, Lola Mendoza and Irene Ybarra as well as his brother Richard Cardona along with many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In loving memory of John Hattingh, 85, who passed away peacefully September 1, 2010, surrounded by his family. He was born April 20, 1925 in the Province of Natal, Cape Town, South Africa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabella Wilke Wright and Barnabus Hattingh (Cape Town), brother, James Hattingh, (Walvis Bay, Namibia) and sister, Iris Luman (Cape Town). John grew up in Cape Town, South Africa. In his teenage years, he joined the Merchant Marines. While working for Pacific Island Transportation Lines on the Norwegian freighter, Thorsile, John met Lorelei "Dolly" Williamson, and together they sailed around the world in the early 1950s. On September 13, 1955, John and Dolly were married at the Norwegian Seamen's Church in San Pedro, CA, and settled in his wife's hometown of Redondo Beach, where he remained a resident for 55 years. While continuing to raise his family in the South Bay, he often traveled to South Africa to visit, forever keeping his homeland close at heart. John was a loving husband, father and grandpa. Survived by his wife, Dolly (married 55 years); his children, Tracy Hattingh (Rob) of Portland, OR, Andrea Kaulupali (Israel) of Maui, HI, Renee McPherson (Scott) of Tampa, FL and Jon-Erik Hattingh, Hermosa Beach, CA; five grandchildren, Leslie Hattingh, Brian Hattingh (Corinne), Kelly McPherson, Andrew McPherson and Rachel Rivas; two great-granddaughters, Lauren Lorick and Heather Hattingh. He is also survived by his older sister, Joan Strong (Cape Town). "Uncle John" will be greatly missed by his numerous nieces and nephews in South Africa, Australia, and around the world. John was a "one-of-a-kind" carpenter for 35 years before retiring from Redondo Local 1478. After retiring, he spent many years volunteering as the field manager for Redondo Sunset Youth Baseball organization at Alta Vista Park (long live the orange truck). John appreciated a good meal, especially a nice breakfast or Indian curry dishes. He was an enthusiast of the lottery (scratchers and quick picks). John enjoyed watching Seinfeld episodes every evening with his wife. He was an avid sports fan. He was a Springbok Rugby supporter, attended countless Redondo Union High School athletic events, as well as rooting for his hometown Dodgers and Lakers. At his request, no services were held. A family celebration of his life was held on September 3, 2010 at his favorite restaurant, Classic Burger in Redondo Beach. Retired December 31, 1986. Moved to Santa Rosa, CA 1987 and toured the US, Canada and Mexico in RV. Sold RV to visit Europe, Canada, South America, Hawaii and Japan. Enjoyed sports throughout his life, basketball, baseball, pool, tennis, bowling and golf. John loved to dance and was a jokester ready to laugh! |

Passed away peacefully on September 7, 2010 at Anna House in Windsor at the age of 84. Joseph, fondly known as Joe, was born in Healdsburg and became the winemaker for the family winery, Cambiaso Winery, until his retirement in 1977. He and his loving sister Rita, lived in their home in the Dry Creek Valley, which Joseph lovingly and meticulously maintained. He was a kind, soft spoken gentleman who loved tending to his garden and vineyard and who was loved by all who knew him. Joseph was an, Veteran who served his country proudly in, in the 452nd Engineer Department as a technician. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Cambiaso and his sister Theresa Casazza. At Joseph's request there will be no formal services. Larry Vincent Rubio, age 20, a resident of Lemoore and a member of the Tule River Indian Reservation, passed away September 10, 2010 in Lemoore., Larry was born January 30, 1990 in Porterville to Warren Jay Rubio Sr. and Fatima Anne Cota and at the age of 3 took up permanent residency in Lemoore where he received his education at Jamison High School. Larry had many interests: He loved to ride his quads off road or at Pismo Dunes and was an excellent quad mechanic. Larry liked playing basketball, horseshoes, tricking out car music systems, listening to country music, native drumming and cheering for his Oakland Raiders., He was an excellent father to his daughters and his family and many friends will keep him in their hearts forever. Pilot Lee Williams, 79, a retired Hughes Aircraft electronic engineer, a former test pilot who personally built two planes (one in the backyard of his Manhattan Beach home), died on September 10, 2010. A memorial for the longtime Manhattan Beach resident will be celebrated at Oceanside Fellowship Church in El Segundo on September 26, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. with a reception following the service. An active community leader, Lee also worked as a flying instructor, served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, a Pennekamp School PTA president and was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) dedicated to introducing young people to all aspects of aviation. In 1955, he was in the Air Force flying the B-17 as a radar technician. Lee was a graduate of Blackstone High School in Virginia. He received his BS from Randolph Macon College in Virginia and master's degrees from Pepperdine University and the University of Southern California. Lee is survived by his wife, Hiltrud; children, Cynthia, Ulla, Janet, Fred, Renee; and their families, including eight grandchildren; and a sister and brother. Leon Albert Attabit, Resident of Redwood City, Born 2/14/22-Died 9/12/10, Leon was predeceased by his loving wife Marguerite Attabit and his dear son Jacques Attabit. Lillian Mary, Johnson, A long time resident, of San Mateo, Parishoner of Saint Matthew's Catholic Church passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, in her home in the Sunnybrae neighborhood. Lil was preceded in death by her husband Conel Johnson, her daughters Sandra Ragsdale and Linda Block, and her brother Joseph Cerri. She is survived by her brother Dante Cerri, her son Bob Johnson, her daughter Joanne Danielson, and her granddaughters Alison Kanshaw and Anna Danielson. Lil was born on July 29th, 1919 in San Francisco to Pilade and Angelina Cerri., Lil was a secretary for Dalmo Victor and then for San Mateo Country District Attorney's office for several years. She won first prize for her almond biscotti at the San Mateo County Fair, which her family is very proud of. She was known by many for her daily walks around town and her big smile., A rosary will be held for Lil at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 19th at Sneider and Sullivan and O'Connell's Funeral Home, 977 S. Lily Rosenow 1930 - 2010 Born May 7, 1930, to Delano farmers Chris and Christina Chroman, Lily was the youngest of their 10 children. She graduated from Delano High School then later moved to Bakersfield and attended Bakersfield College. Always a hard-worker, she immersed herself completely in any project that came her way. With her love of the outdoors and children, Lily directed the Camp Fire Girls' Camp - Yenis Hante - in the Greenhorn Mountains for many years. An enthusiastic, artistic, and creative decorator, she pursued her love of decorating by working as Display Director for Brock's Department Stores in Bakersfield - the highlight of which was organizing and executing Brock's 1975 Party of the Year. Subsequently, Lily returned to her "outdoor roots" and taught the early Ecology and Native American Trails at Clemmie Gill's School of Science and Conservation (SCICON) until her retirement in 2004. An abiding prayerful faith had always been a part of her life; Lily was kind, generous and light-hearted. Our "Bammy" danced with gusto at her 80th birthday party; she was always the "Life of the Party." When she and husband Cliff moved to the mountains, they spent many happy years raising animals, gardening, and entertaining family and friends who loved her deeply and will indeed miss her dearly. Lily was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Christina Chroman; siblings, Lewis Chroman, Clarence Chroman, "Buster" Chroman, Evelina Garn, Anna Hess, "Snowy" Chroman, Mary Austerman, and Norma Goodin; her first husband, Lewis Long; and step-daughter, Susan Gibson. Survivors include her devoted husband of 34 years Clifford Rosenow; sister, Mildred Waits; children, Lisa and Jim Meehan, Leah Huber, and Tom and Cathy Long; stepson, Bill and John Rosenow; her beloved grandchildren John and Chris Huber, Jason Fransham, Lacy Kress, and Lucy Long; step-grandchildren, Sarah and Tyler Rosenow; five great-grandchildren, Nicolas and Ryan Fransham, Channis Huber, Riley Kress, and Charlotte Huber; and cat, Pepper. Marion Frederick Hawkins was born April 9, 1925 in Marshfield, MO and passed away in his home surrounded by his family on September 11, 2010 at the age of 85., Marion was born to Floyd and Etta Mae Hawkins, the youngest son of their nine children. In 1943 he entered the, and served his country alongside his three brothers. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and went to work for the Hanford Sentinel and later the Santa Barbara News-Press. He retired in 1987 after 40 years of loyal service to newspapers. In 1989, Marion and his wife Connie moved to Modesto where he enjoyed golfing, attending Shelter Cove Church, and most of all, watching his grandkids play sports., Marion is survived by his wife of 62 years, Connie Hawkins of Modesto; his three children, Cecilia Avila of Fresno, Linda (Rodney) Rodrigues of Lemoore, and Fred (Carmen) Hawkins of Modesto; sisters Leota Clair of Marshfield, MO and Oleta Miller of Niangua, MO; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and countless other family members who will miss his humor and gracious heart. Marjorie Gloria (Bell) Thrall, age 86, died peacefully at her home in Sandy Hook on September 15, 2010. Gloria, as see was known to all, was born in Haverstraw, N.Y. on February 23, 1924 and grew up in White Plains, N.Y. She was the daughter of William and Marion (Weir) Bell. Gloria was married for 55 years to Arthur Jack Thrall of Sandy Hook, who predeceased her in 2001. Their son, Jack, died in 1978. Gloria raised three children and retired from Fairfield Hills Hospital in 1989 where she worked in accounts payable for 23 years. She is survived by two daughters, Debra Thrall of Sandy Hook and Diana "Dee" Thrall and her partner, Rose Fogelman of Newtown; and a sister, Diane Smith of White Plains, NY Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Born in Woodland, California on July 9, 1930 to James Vincent and Lella Belle Ball Doherty, Mary Ellen grew up at the Sutter Buttes, and later at The Red Rose Ranch in Arbuckle, California., Mary Ellen attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School in Colusa, Holy Rosary Academy in Woodland, and Dominican College in Marin County, where she earned her degree in Biology and History in 1956. Mary Ellen went on to become a school teacher before settling down to raise her family at the home that she and her husband, Charles, built in Hillsborough in 1960., Mary Ellen enjoyed many community, outdoor and athletic activities over the years. Once her children were school aged, Mary Ellen began participating in volunteer work and fund raising events for the Coyote Point Museum Auxiliary. Mary Ellen loved gardening, and was a member of the Perennial Gardener's Garden Club for many years. It was her love of oak trees that inspired her to build on the property in Hillsborough that she called home for the last 50 years. She enjoyed the sport and camaraderie of pheasant hunting in the rice fields with her family during the fall, and enjoyed skiing with her family at Lake Tahoe during the winter. Mary Ellen enjoyed many years as a member of the Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club where she worked on perfecting her golf game, and was an enthusiastic tennis player year round until the age of 70. Mary Ellen was also an avid reader and traveler. Later in life, Mary Ellen traveled the world from Asia to Europe and to destinations in between, often with her youngest daughter, Gaby, as her traveling companion., Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, (d. 1976), a pharmacist, 4th generation San Franciscan and descendant of Captain Nicholas Bichard, who came to California from the English Channel Islands during the Gold Rush era and was a successful San Francisco businessman. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Damaret (d.1960). Mary Ellen is survived by her children: Cigale (and husband Kerry) of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Midge (and husband John) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; son Michael of Hillsborough, California; and Gabrielle of Scottsdale, Arizona. She will be missed by her grandchildren: Dominique Bichard of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Morgan and Taylor du Bray of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Mary Ellen was also preceded in death by her dear brother, Michael V. Doherty of Dunnigan, California who died in 2009. Nina S. Carpenter 1921 - 2010 Nina was born on March 20, 1921 in Parker, Idaho and passed away on September 16, 2010. Nina grew up in Idaho and relocated to Bakersfield when she married Jim Carpenter in 1942. They were married for 44 years before Jim passed away in 1986. They loved being with family and traveling. They belonged to the Sundowners of the Good Sam Club and enjoyed many of the travels and camp-outs with their friends. Nina loved family first and never missed the opportunity to spend her time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and also found time for reading, oil painting, and crocheting. Nina had a sweet nature and was always cheerful and welcoming to all around her. She embraced life with a happy and positive attitude and shared her lovely and giving personality with others. Patricia Edris Levin, Resident of San Francisco, Suddenly in San Francisco on September 16, 2010 at the age of 60. Loving daughter of Charles Pivnick and the late Janice Pivnick; beloved wife of Gary Levin for 39 years; caring mother of Jonathan and his fianc‚e Ariel Shulman, Marc and his fianc‚e Jennifer Landres, and Diana and her husband Evan Ben-Artzi; dear sister of Barrett Lucero and loving aunt of Hayley Lucero., She was born in San Francisco on November 20, 1949, and attended Lowell High School. She majored in French as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with Honors and Distinction in 1970. She also completed a Master's of Arts degree in French Literature at Stanford University in 1972. Patricia worked both as a teacher and a tutor in her early career in the San Francisco Bay Area. In the past two decades, she worked as a copy editor for several catalogue firms and other organizations., Patricia was a third generation San Franciscan and a lifelong member and active leader at Congregation Beth Sholom, where she served on the board as both Secretary and Vice President. She also served on the Lowell High School Alumni Association Board, and contributed to many other community organizations. An avid Francophile, she continued to study French at the Alliance Fran‡aise and in private classes throughout her life. Her life's passion was speaking and translating the French language as well as traveling to France. Other interests included reading, knitting, and needlepointing, as well as spending time with her many friends in the community. Patricia was a beautiful, intelligent, and dignified woman who loved her family passionately. His quiet, smiling presence will be greatly missed by his family and friends., Born on July 20, 1922, in the American Hospital of Mexico City, to Dorthea Blair and Paul M Heilman, his childhood was spent in Mexico, Chicago, IL and Havana. He graduated from MIT in 1944 and maintained lifelong friendships with many of his ATO fraternity brothers., During World War II Paul served aboard LCI 439 in the Pacific seeing action at Okinawa and Lingayen Gulf. His career was in technical sales working for multi-nationals, trade association as well as his own sales agency. He also was active in community organizations and was a Scoutmaster for many years., Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen Davis Heilman. They met in college and married after the war. Their home was Westport so they enjoyed the town and waterfront frequently., In retirement he became more active at church, traveled, played paddle tennis and bridge, organized the first science fair at Staples and participated in the Y's Men. In 2007 he moved to Belmont to be closer to his son., Survived by his son, Paul M Heilman, III, daughter Maritza Heilman Jackson and brother Theodore Heilman of Coral Gables, FL. Phillip Andrew Jeres, 51, had a massive brain hemorrhage and passed away on September 7, 2010 in Palm Springs, Calif. Phillip was born to Larry R. Jeres and Josie Jeres on August 4, 1959 in Brawley, Calif., and was a longtime resident of the Coachella Valley. He most recently worked as a cook at the Morongo Canyon Lanes. Phillip was a graduate from Coachella Valley High School in 1977, and received his Culinary Arts certificate from College of the Desert. Phillip is survived by his mother, Josie Jeres; sisters, Linda McPeters (Doug) of Fontana, and Mary Jo Garcia (Enrique) of Indio; brothers, Larry (Rosie) and Perry (Debi) of Indio; and the Jewel of his life, his daughter Jami Santana Jeres, plus several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Reef took pleasure in fishing, golf and motorcycle riding. His new found hobby was riding his Kawasaki Volcan with his wife on the back. His goal was to ride in a motorcycle club but was cut short by his illness. Reef was very involved in his son's youth. He never missed a soccer, basketball or baseball game. When his son's made a tee time he was the first one out the door with his club's in his hand. Reef is survived by his loving wife Eva Perez-Atwell and their two sons, Reef G. & Logan V. Atwell. He lived, loved, laughed, and taught us how to do all three by example. Though his life spanned 82 years, from June 17, 1928 - September 15, 2010, his thirst for knowledge led him through more than one lifetime of adventures. Bob met the love of his life, Frances, his "Doll", in Eureka in 1956 and she said "I do" only after he asked her seven times. They raised four curious and rambunctious boys together. Bob was many things to many people: leader, father, husband, Christian, plumber, nature-lover, diver, builder, gardener, fisherman extraordinaire, philanthropist, and hard worker. Those who knew Bob well also describe him as a storyteller, wise owl, giving tree, teacher, comedian, encyclopedia, explorer, and a lion among men. He traveled the Pacific building schools, churches and medical clinics while including his family on the expeditions. Among the places he visited and left his indelible mark were: Saipan, Palau, Pohnpei, Majuro, and Guam. He had the magical ability to slow down and live life at the speed of nature. Bob was the kind of husband who told everyone he met, "If you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world, tell her I love her," which always made his Doll smile; the kind of father who provided opportunities for his sons; the kind of grandfather who would let his grandchildren play with the precious artifacts that he kept in his "museum"; the kind of brother who shared equally the benefits, while shouldering the responsibilities with Dick and Russ. His legacy lives on through his wife, Frances; his sons, Robert Jr., Jamen, Gregory and Matthew; his grandchildren, Julie, Robert III, Jamen, Frances, Matthew, Lorraine, Johnathon and Ridge; and his great-grandchildren, Trinity, Rachel and Kira. Ron Barron was one of life's truly unique individuals, a "man child', "Renaissance Man" and a pirate at heart! Sadly, this vibrant, kind, generous and loving soul departed us on August 18, 2010 at age seventy. A free spirit and larger than life, Ron's lifelong passions included music, surfing, sport kite flying and yoyo's. Ron's family and numerous friends adored him and will miss his colorful personality, razor sharp intellect and humor. Ron was born in San Francisco in 1940, grew up in San Diego, graduating in 1958 from Mission Bay High School. Ron was one of the original members of the infamous South Land Surfers Club that surfed long boards along the California Coast and Mexico. In 1979, Ron moved to Sonoma County and enjoyed a 20 year career as a bridge builder for the Public Works Dept. He was a founder of the Northern California Kite Club and was a professional level sport kite flyer and exhibitor. Ron retired and moved to Maui in 1999 where he served as a volunteer for the National Kidney Foundation, American Lung, and helped start the Hawaii Yoyo Association. Ron will be remembered as a fun loving and gregarious personality, who's shining smile will be missed. Predeceased by his parents, Ken and Thelma Barron, and son, Patrick Barron, Ron is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Sally Barron; his children: Ken Riley, Scott Barron, Kevin Barron and Sabrina Stryker; his siblings: Bob and Larry Barron, and Barbara Merritt; eight Grand children, and many nieces and nephews. A private celebration of life will be held in Ron's memory. |

Sally Carr, a long-time resident of the Palm Springs, Calif. area, passed away peacefully in Rancho Mirage, Calif. on September 12, 2010. She was born October 14, 1930 in Chicago, Ill. to Joseph Parise and Sarah Arnone. Sally resided in Chicago where she worked for Pure Oil in their Accounting Department for fourteen years. Sally married Jack Carr in 1968 and moved to Edison, N.J., where they lived until Jack's death in April l997. That fall, Sally moved to Palm Springs where she became active in Sons of Italy - Dolly Sinatra Lodge, Lions' Club of Cathedral City, St. Louis Women's Guild and People Helping People. Sally is survived by her sister, Rosemarie Durkton of Cathedral City, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Donald Carr of Burlington, Wisc. and Eugene Carr (Aurora) of Peoria, Ill.; as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grand-nephews. Sally was preceded in death by her older sister Josephine Milke. Passed away at home on September 14, 2010 surrounded by her family after a long struggle with lymphoma. Shirley was born November 10, 1932 in Santa Maria, California. In June, 1950, she married Alvin Van Stone and moved to Sonoma County in 1951 to start a family. Shirley was a devoted mother of four who generously gave her time to the Church, school, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA, Little League and her work. Shirley was incredibly passionate about working with and educating young children. For over 25 years she served as director at the First Presbyterian Preschool. Countless children and their parents have been forever touched by her warmth and insight. Shirley had an uncanny way of making everyone feel special and held gently in her unwavering confidence. Throughout her life, Shirley extended her passion for working with children by volunteering at schools. She read with students, assisted in classrooms, went on fieldtrips, taught quilting, she continued to share her wonderful gift of educating children and making each child feel special, heard and safe. After retirement, she cherished the time she had with her husband of 56 years traveling, camping, hiking and loving her family. Whether it be watching a ball game, reading a story or baking, her grandchildren were a great sense of joy for her. Shirley is survived by her four children, Ronald, Jeffery, Matthew and Christina; her grandchildren, Ronald Jr., Michael, Cade, Casey, and Cole; her sister, Edna Mae Gobel; and her special nieces Penny and Mary Beth and their families. Thank you, Mom, for your quiet, simple commitment to knowing and loving us...each of us. For always having our favorite cookies, for your patience, for never missing a game or event, for adoring us. Tamra Marie McAuliff Tamra passed away after a difficult battle with cancer. Born on January 28, 1961 in Marysville CA. Tamra grew up and worked in Yuba City, CA, moved to Vancouver, WA in 1985 with Dennis McAuliff, her best friend, sweetheart and husband of 29 years. They were married in May of 1981 at St. Isidore's Church in Yuba City, CA. Surviving is her husband Dennis McAuliff, loving mother Darlene Houston, James Keeney (father), Todd and his wife Arlene Keeney (brother and sister-in- law), nieces: Tonya, Christina, Jessica Keeney, and nephew's Shane and Tyler Keeney, her mother-in- law Louise McAuliff, the large McAuliff family of eleven siblings, along with 57 nieces and nephews and numerous aunts and uncles in CA, IL and TX. Preceded in death by Terrell Robert Keeney (brother), Caleb Keeney (nephew), Charles and Minnie Keeney, George and Marie Ross (grandparents), Edward Joseph McAuliff (father-in-law) and her beloved pets Chandon, Lani, Deigo, and Tootsie. Tamra and Dennis were truly blessed and Dennis would like to give a special thanks to all the friends and family, the staff at OHSU and SW Medical, who were extremely supportive through all the good times and difficult times. Velma Cecilia Macedo Feb. 6, 1927 - Sept. 14, 2010 Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Cousin to her loving family was called to be with the Lord on September 14, 2010. Born on February 6, 1927 to Vital Flores and Mary Mancebo Flores in El Nido. She spent her early adult life prior to marriage on the family farm on LeGrand Rd. in Merced County. Married to her adoring husband of 59 years George Macedo, who began their life together on November 3, 1951, beginning the lifetime commitment together with their wedding ceremony in Le Grand. Subsequently, after her marriage to George Macedo raised six children during their marriage together while keeping residence primarily in Merced County and running a dairy business. After, getting out of the agricultural industry and selling the dairy Velma enjoyed in her later years working in the Dietary department of a local convalescent hospital. Her children include, Alice Macedo, James and wife Karen Macedo, Tim Macedo, Bruce Macedo and wife Michelle Macedo, Cindi Ward and husband Bill Ward, Rosemary Shafer-Covert and husband Marc Covert. She has seven Grandchildren, two step Grandsons, two Great Grandchildren and many Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. Her surviving sisters include Olivia Clinton of Modesto, Alice Hampton of Dunsmuir, and Evelyn Way of Merced. She was predeceased by her twin brother Norman Flores of Atwater, sister Delores Pickering of Yuca Arizona, and sister Mary Bettencourt of Woodland. Velma was a genuine and caring woman and won the hearts of all that crossed her path. She loved children (especially babies) and animals. She was known for her unselfish attitude and willingness to help her family and those around her with grace and kindness. She exemplified a woman of yesteryear where physical hard work was not uncommon for women of this era. She was strong in spirit and a woman that held the highest regard for always doing the right thing in her path in life. Considered a soft spoken woman but held the strength about her that was admirable to those that knew her best. Surrounded by her family, dearly beloved Valerie van Ee passed into the Lord's arms on September 7, 2010 at the age of 55. She was a native of Santa Rosa, living in Windsor for the past 23 years and employed by Hewlett Packard and Agilent Technologies for over 27 years. Valerie was an awesome pool player with countless winning trophies after playing for the North Bay Pool League for 13 years. Valerie is survived by many family and friends. "Jack" Vaughn Louie La Blue, 89, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, 2010., Jack was born in 1921 to Leon Louis La Blue and Annie Lee Flowers in Johnson Mill Creek, Oklahoma. Jack grew up through the Great Depression with his brother Virgil and his sister Jernice. The La Blue family eventually moved to California's Central Valley and settled in Tulare. On December 24, 1938, Jack married his one true love, Eathel Witt. Jack served in the, during, , and was stationed in both the Philippines and Japan. Jack loved to tinker and he could fix anything. Velma Ray Davenport, 99, of Hanford, California departed this life on September 5, 2010 in Hanford, California., Velma was born in Mazie, Oklahoma on July 4, 1911 to Tom and Kate Ray. Her family moved to Pryer, Oklahoma where she graduated from the 8th grade and then graduated from Stillwater High School. Velma married her high school sweetheart, Clarence W. Davenport in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. On October 9, 1935 a beautiful baby girl, Kay A. Davenport was born at St. Anthony Hospital. Velma worked as a Nurses Aide in St. Anthony Hospital for a time. The family moved to Enid, Oklahoma where Velma worked as a x-ray technician. Clarence and Velma enjoyed traveling and lived in several states and finally settled in St. Petersburg, Florida, where they made their home for over 40 years. In 1994 Velma moved to California and settled in Hanford in 1997. William C. Birdsey, Sr. September 26, 1911 ~ August 21 2009 Bill passed away peacefully at his home on August 21, 2009. He was born September 26, 1911 in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to California and settled in Pasadena when Bill was a boy. He attended CalTech and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering which he applied during his career. Bill retired from Fiberboard Corporation as Vice President of Operations for California. After he retired he served on the Board of Directors of the Flintkote Corporation. Bill was married twice and was a devoted and loving husband. He married his first wife Betty Creswell upon graduation and they spent 23 years together. They had two children Betsey and Bill. After Betty's untimely death from cancer, Bill moved the family to San Francisco. There he met and married Jean Andre. They were married for 46 wonderful and loving years. Bill loved sailing. It was his passion in life whether it be racing or cruising he was truly at home on the water. He imparted this passion with family and friends through out his life. In his youth he built his first sailboat and plied the waters of Lake Michigan. After the family moved to California he built a Star. With Betty and the family in tow he cruised the Southern Cal waters. He frequently sailed to the Channel Islands, first on a 28ft sloop and then a 44ft schooner. It was on the San Francisco Bay that Bill started racing. He became a member of the San Francisco and Saint Francis Yacht Clubs. He acquired a Cal 40 "Seabird III" which he raced in the San Francisco Bay, the Trans Pac to Hawaii and up and down the California coast. If a race was scheduled Bill, "Seabird III" and crew were most likely there. In 1977 Jean and William embarked on a six-year sailing adventure. They purchased a Whitby 42 "SEABIRD V" and sailed all of the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence Seaway and from Maine to Florida. They then brought the boat to British Columbia to complete their journey. In 1983 the St Francis Yacht Club awarded the Harter-Jacks Perpetual Cruising Trophy to Bill. Bill is survived by his sister Ruth Burr, children Betsy Fraser-Smith, Bill Birdsey II, Noble A. "Rocky" Birdsey, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at noon on Sunday, September 26 at the San Francisco Yacht Club in Tiburon. Werner F. Kalinka, age 93 of New Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Schweibert) Kalinka, passed away at Danbury Hospital on Friday, September 17, 2010. Werner was born in Elberfeld, Wuppertal, Germany, son of the late Gustav and Emelia (Ohleff) Kalinka. He immigrated with his family at the age of nine and lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. where he finished his education. He also lived in Queens, N.Y. and Fairlawn, N.J., prior to moving to New Fairfield, in 1972. He was an avid traveler and had visited all fifty states during his travels. He was a longtime member of the New Fairfield Senior Center and the Squantz Engine Company of the New Fairfield Fire Department. He is survived by four children, Richard Kalinka and wife, Lori of New Fairfield, Carol Gramer and husband, Richard of West Islip, N.Y., Joan Tibaldi and husband, Gary of Farmingdale, N.Y. and Catherine Scogno of New Fairfield; as well as nine grandchildren, Krista, Lisa, Donna, Bonnie, Jennifer, Thomas, Gina, Nicholas and Brian; and three great-grandchildren, Amanda, Michael and Justin. Funeral services will be held at the Congregational Church of New Fairfield, on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. William C. "Bill" Gardner Atkinson, 62, formerly of Palm Springs, Calif. and most recently of Seaford, Del., passed away on September 8, 2010 at 3:30 AM after a vigorous courageous brave battle with lung cancer. We remember him, cherish him, and honor him. Bill you have long been in our prayers, and will always be remembered and held in our hearts. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa M. Atkinson of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Brandy R. Atkinson of Seaford, Del.; son, Jason W. Atkinson of Columbus, Ohio; and his beloved granddaughter of Seaford. He will be sorely missed by many friends here in the desert. Bill was best known as the founder and CEO of Hot Desert Knights, Inc., a company that produces adult entertainment for the gay community. Started in 1998, Hot Desert Knights, Inc. quickly became a leader in the gay adult entertainment industry with sales throughout the world. Actively involved in politics, Bill also served as City Manager and City Councilman of Bellefontaine, Ohio and was President of The Delaware Motor Transport Association, an affiliate of the American Trucking Association, before his partial retirement to Palm Springs in 1994. A private memorial service will be held in Seaford. His ashes with be spread per his wishes in Kauai, Hawaii at a later date. William K. Coblentz, a San Francisco attorney with a storied career of unsurpassed impact in legal, civic and political circles, passed away early on September 13, 2010. He was 88., Over the course of more than 60 years in law practice, Mr. Coblentz attracted a host of high-profile clients – from Patty Hearst to the Getty family to the McClatchy newspapers. While he gained a reputation for deftly handling sensitive legal engagements, he also accumulated a series of accomplishments and contacts in civic and political affairs that extended beyond the Bay Area to the state and national spheres. Throughout the decades in which he was widely acknowledged as one of California's most powerful lawyers, he was equally renowned for his humor, humility and candor., A true son of San Francisco, Mr. Coblentz was born in the city, and he graduated from Lowell High School. In 1943, he received his bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley, the beginning of a lifelong commitment to the University of California. After serving in the, , he attended, Law School, graduating in 1947., Mr. Coblentz held the position of special counsel to Governor Edmund "Pat" Brown from 1959 to 1962, serving alongside future Secretary of State Warren Christopher. Governor Brown subsequently appointed him to the University of California Regents, where he served from 1964 to 1980, the last two years as Chairman., Mr. Coblentz was an early adviser to both Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. As Mayor of San Francisco, Feinstein appointed him to be a founding member of the San Francisco Airport Commission. He remained on the Commission until 1986, and the new SFO International Terminal 2 boarding area will be dedicated next year as the Coblentz Concourse. Over the decades, Mr. Coblentz remained a friend and adviser to both Senator Feinstein and Senator Boxer., Mr. Coblentz started his private law career with the venerable San Francisco firm Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe, but in 1955 he joined the two-lawyer firm then called Samuel, Jacobs & Sills. A few years later the firm changed its name to Jacobs, Sills and Coblentz. Today, the firm is known as Coblentz, Patch, Duffy & Bass and consists of 72 lawyers., Mr. Coblentz's law practice started in real estate but, like his firm as a whole, expanded well beyond that field. While he and his partners were instrumental in such iconic San Francisco developments as Yerba Buena Gardens, Mission Bay, Levi Plaza and AT&T Park, Mr. Coblentz was also the longtime counsel to rock-and-roll promoter Bill Graham and later represented renowned 1960s recording artists the Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead., Issues of civil rights and racial justice were a passion for Mr. Coblentz. He defended the free speech rights Communist activist Angela Davis in the 1960s, and voiced the University of California's opposition to the South African Apartheid regime. He was a longtime colleague and key supporter of Cecil F. Poole, the first African-American to serve as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California, as a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of California and as a judge on United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Later, Mr. Coblentz persuaded Allen Broussard, one of the first African Americans on the California Supreme Court, to join the Coblentz law firm. He was an instrumental supporter of the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund., In 2008, Mr. Coblentz's partners honored this long record of service by endowing the Coblentz Fellowship for Civil Rights at the University of California Berkeley Law School. The endowment awards fellowships to students dedicated to the pursuit of civil rights and racial justice. Mr. Coblentz also received the 2010 Distinguished Service Award from the Institute for Governmental Studies at the University of California., Mr. Coblentz served on the Boards of the Koret Foundation, and the Public Policy Institute of California. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2002., Despite Mr. Coblentz's accumulation of accomplishments and honors, he was universally admired for his genuine, unpretentious style.
